Records date from 1980-1997 and consist of minutes of meetings from Section Heads Staff Meetings, Cultural Affairs, Collections Committee, Exhibit Committee and Senior Management Committee (ECE). Records also include an annual report from the Public Records Committee and a file from the Records Management and Deputy Ministers Committee that includes comments from the NWT Archives. There are also promotional and development files from Education Services for events such as Heritage Day, Amazing Sundays and Open House, as well as files from the Geographic Names program including a decision paper about the program, as well as material concerning the transfer of the toponymy program from the Federal Government. Records also consist of a Heritage Training Assessment from the Museum Advisory Management section, a file concerning the reorganization of Culture and Heritage Division, strategic planning files and an Audit Bureau report on the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, as well as the response from the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre to the report.

The sound recordings date from 1987-1990 and were a result of three separate projects that were conducted by the Geographical Names Program. The first series of recordings (CN-1 through CN-16) were created between 1988-1989 and include interviews with elders from Paulatuk about traditional geographical names in the area. The second series (CN-17 through CN-25) contains interviews conducted in 1987 by Allice Legat and Territorial Toponymist Randy Freeman, with Sachs Harbour elder William Kuptana. The interviews focused primarily on William Kuptana's life as well as recorded traditional geographical names in the area. The remaining series (CN-33 through CN-87 and CN-90) contains recordings from the Dogrib Names Study. This project was an internal project through the Geographical Names Program to gather all traditional Tlicho (Dogrib) geographical names. The recordings include extensive elders' interviews conducted in Behchoko (Rae) and Whati (Lac La Martre) between 1989-1990.

This fonds consists of 50.3 cm of textual records, 31 black and white photographs and negatives, 3 maps, and 1 architectural drawing. The textual material includes correspondence, minutes, annual reports, reports on the Territorial Museum, project files, archaeological site regulations, and files on toponymic activities. Included among the correspondence files are the records of the Chairman of the Board, Alexander Stevenson, and of the Permanent Secretary of the Board. The photographs consist of 3 photographs possibly intended to be used in a pamphlet, 16 black and white negatives of Dene women and Inuit camps, 2 prints and 1 duplicate negative of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sergeant Cook in Hay River and an image of Matt Berry, Val Patriarche, Jim Hall, and Ken Murray at Fort Rae in 1930. The images were collected by the NWT Historical Advisory Board as part of its mandate to acquire historical materials on behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition, there are 9 photographs of Albert Faille's cabin, scow and warehouse at Fort Simpson. The pictures were taken on September 20, 1974 by Henry G. Cook for the Historical Advisory Board, as part of an inventory of Faille's effects. The architectural drawing shows the design for plaquing monuments and the three maps show areas of archaeological interest along the proposed Mackenzie Highway.

This fonds consists of 2 C-60 audiocassettes and 4 pages of text. The 2 audiocassette recordings contain an interview conducted by Heather Metcalf with Johnny Eyakfwo, a Dogrib elder. Francis Blackduck was the translator. The purpose of the interview was to record Dogrib traditional place names. The accession also includes a list of the place names recorded, English translations and official names. The Dogrib names are spelled using the standardized Dogrib orthography.
