Need to remove duplicates within file and check N-1979-052 stock file reference prints for other duplication before cataloguing. I already recognize several duplicates from the postcards in the N-1979-052 images organized in 2006/07. Apr18/07 ES
The glassine envelopes that held most of the items have been disposed of. They were identical to glassine envelopes I found within N-1979-052, with 'Henry Busse' written upon them, and occasionally 'Henry Busse-People' 'Henry Busse-Native'. These are most likely from the Museum of the North's organization of Busse's material. Apr23/07 ES
I checked the N-1979-052 stock file and was able to remove several duplicates. There are some near-duplicates in the set; images that were taken a few shots after ones that are in the stock file. These postcards are likely to have been printed after Busse's death, and some may have been recovered from the stock he had on hand in his shop. About half have a copyright stamp with 'E. Busse (Hanselman)', which is Busse's daughter, who came to Yellowknife after his death and made an arrangement with the Museum of the North to sell some of Busse's postcards. I established the date range of 1948-1968 since the pictures were taken between 1948-1962, but many were printed afterwards. There are postcards with similar annotations in the N-1979-052 accession. Items :0001 - :0007 are prints, :0008 - :0042 are print postcards. A photocopied listing of the images with their item numbers is within the accession file. Apr24/07 ES
Changing the copyright note to "Public domain". This is slightly uncertain due to the lack of metadata with this accession, but assuming that all images were taken by Busse and any posthumous publication happened in or before 1968 (as per estimated date range), they should all have entered PD no later than January 1, 2019. The images are of aboriginal men, women and children, primarily from the Eastern Arctic. These items appear to have originated with the Museum of the North and were provided by an anonymous donor.
