The fonds consist of 48 Betacam videocassettes, 6 audiocassettes and 6 cm of textual material. The videocassettes contain stock footage documenting the construction of a birchbark canoe for the Dogrib Birchbark Canoe Project, which took place in May-June, 1996. In addition, there are 2 professionally produced Tlicho (Dogrib) language (English subtitles) broadcast versions of the project; one version is 0:29 in length, the other 0:40. The broadcast versions were completed in early-1997. The 6 audiocassettes contain Tlicho (Dogrib) language interviews conducted at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, as well as corresponding typed transcriptions. The textual material also includes proposals, project reports, logs for the videocassettes and letters of support.
Dogrib Birchbark Canoe ProjectThe sound recording documents an interview with Charles Reiach. The recording includes a narration of a film donated to the NWT Archives by Charles Reiach and his experiences as an HBC trader from 1926-1936.
The videocassette consists of "The City of Yellowknife", part of the series "Sketches of Our Town." The video, hosted and narrated by Harvey Kirck, was filmed in the fall of 1991. It depicts Yellowknife past and present, and includes archival material, and interviews with residents Michael Borden, Dave Lovell, Barb Cameron, Walt Humphries and pilot Jim McAvoy.

The videocassettes consist of "Birch Bark Baskets" (English version) 21 min.; "Making a Birch Sled" (Slavey version) 21 min.; and "The Spruce Canoe" (English version) 21 min. The canoe was built by Johnny Klondike. The videos were filmed by Francine Betthale, produced by the Fort Liard Band Council, and funded by the GNWT Department of Culture and Communications and Dene Nation.

Yellowknife FilmsThis fonds consists of 96 copy photographs and slides taken by Bill Stewart of the Mooseskin Boat Project in 1981. The photographs were selected out of 180 of Bill Stewart's photographs. The images include the different phases of the boat under construction, the people involved in the project and views of the boat's trip from the point of construction at the head of the Keele River to Fort Norman.

This accession consists of one colour photograph of Punch Dickins and his wife Connie in front of the Bush Pilots Monument in Yellowknife. The picture is credited to Murray Smith. The picture is autographed by both Connie and Punch Dickins.
Records are comprised of program guides for the Caribou Carnival annual spring festival in Yellowknife. The guides, which vary from newsprint to full-colour, date from 1978 to 1995. The Carnival, which began in the mid-1960s, was famous for hosting the Canadian Championship Dog Derby dogsledding race. The last Caribou Carnival took place on Frame Lake, Yellowknife in 2009.
This accession consists of a sound recording of a lecture given by Mr. Dickins at the Ontario Science Centre in 1978. The lecture recounts a short history of flying in the north, reminiscences of some of his experiences, other important events in the history of the bush pilots, and the importance of the airplane to development in the north.
Dickins, PunchThe textual records consist of two certificates of membership in the Polar Bear Chapter, Order of Arctic Adventurers, for having flown a radio controlled model airplane across the Arctic Circle. The images depict a Commanche 250 model airplane, David Johnson, his wife Gladys and their dog Joc.
Records include photographs relating to the Arctic Red River ferry MV McQuesten dating from the early summer of 1974. The second photograph features Captain Nash, who had brought the ferry down river from Hay River that season, cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
This fonds consists of approximately 1.6 meters of textual material from the Department of Public Works and Highways. The material from the Directorate Division includes files and records related to Commissioner's tours during the 1970s, departmental reorganization, departmental goals and objectives, capital assistance, lease and contracting policies, decentralization and privatization efforts and affirmative action policies. There are also reports from the regions and communities on Public Works projects, transfer of resposnibilities from Ottawa, transfer of responsibilites to hamlets, energy conservation projects, material related to the maintenance of public buildings such as schools, Dene and Metis land claim information, the Business Incentive Policy (BIP), the Capital Site Planning Committee, Senior Management Committee Minutes, Project Management seminars and material from conferences that took place across the Northwest Territories. The remaining material, generated by the Project Management Division, is dated between 1977-1986. Included in this material are correspondence, drawings, and specifications relating to the construction of the Northwest Territories Pavilion that was part of Expo '86.
Northwest Territories. Department of Public Works and Highways (1985-1989)This fonds contains photographs taken between 1973 -1975 during three distinct northern expeditions. Photographs taken from the first expedition, which took place in May 1973, documnent transport vehicles used by the team, sites and captured phenomenon related to Sherstone's glaciology work, and the townships of Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, and Inuvik. Photographs of the second expedition, taking place from May -June 1974, capture transport vehicles and other equipment used by Sherstone's team, notable homes and buildings in Yellowknife, Fort Good Hope, Fort Wrigley, Norman Wells, Tuktoyuktuk, Resolute Bay and Frobisher Bay [Iqaluit], and Sherstone's research sites and camp facilities during this expedition. Photographs of the third expedition occuring in May 1975 mainly feature aircrafts and landing sites, and natural phenomena viewed by Sherstone during this trip through Tuktoyuktuk and Norman Wells.
Sherstone, DavidRecords include photographs documenting the construction of a mooseskin boat, the construction of a spruce bark canoe, and the tanning of a moose hide and a copy of Gloria Fedirchuk's proposal to film aboriginal adaptations and their relationship to the boreal forest environment of the Fisherman Lake Slave, including ethnographic practices, ethnobotanical information on use and taxonomy of flora, ethnozoological information on use of fauna, activities done in various seasons of the year, and the construction and creation of ethnographic items.
Fedirchuk, GloriaThis accession consists of a composite map used by Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue in the search for pilot Marten Hartwell, nurse Judy Hill and medivac patients David Pisurayak Kootook and Neemee Nulliayok following a plane crash on November 8, 1972.
The item is made of a series of aeronautical maps that were adhered together and annotated. Two sets of plastic overlays detailing search grids and the actual crash site are also annotated. The maps used depict the geographical area from Spence Bay southeast to Great Bear Lake and southwest to Great Slave Lake.
This fonds consists of 1.5 cm of textual material and two photographs. The text is comprised of copies of the proceedings of the 1972, 1973 and 1974 Arctic Air Symposiums sponsored by the Canadian Air Transportation Administration. Jackson attended these meetings in her capacity as a member of the group working to establish a search and rescue group within the Northwest Territories. The photographs show a Canadian Forces Lockheed C-130 being unloaded at Alert in 1973 and May Willmot, a writer from Ottawa and a member of the Canadian Air Force standing beside a signpost at Alert. In addition, there is also a copy of the proceedings of a meeting held in Yellowknife in 1975 in conjunction with the United Nation's International Women's Year.
