The photographs document the construction of a winter road between Fort Providence and Inuvik in 1963-1964. The 8 mm film appears to depict a flight from Calgary to Norman Wells. The 16 mm film depicts the loading and unloading of barges through various communities along the Mackenzie River, including Hay River, Fort Simpson, Fort Wrigley and Fort Good Hope. The cartographic booklet is comprised of maps of the Mackenzie River.

The materials formerly belonged to Ross Laycock, who worked on the first winter road up the Mackenzie Valley from Fort Providence to Inuvik in the 1960s.

Records are comprised of program guides for the Caribou Carnival annual spring festival in Yellowknife. The guides, which vary from newsprint to full-colour, date from 1978 to 1995. The Carnival, which began in the mid-1960s, was famous for hosting the Canadian Championship Dog Derby dogsledding race. The last Caribou Carnival took place on Frame Lake, Yellowknife in 2009.

The textual records consist of a programme outlining the itinerary for the visit of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales to Yellowknife in April 1979 and a report entitled "Aerial Reconnaissance Report: Fort Simpson Towards Fort Liard Road, 1956." The 50 black and white photographs are aerial photos from the "Reconnaissance Report" and the 2 maps are also part of the "Reconnaissance Report." The maps depict the District of Mackenzie, Simpson-Liard area and the Fort Nelson-Kotcho Lake region in British Columbia. The 34 colour slides depict the old village of Ni Dzi Ka Ko Gola, now an archaelogical site where the home of the Great Bear Lake Chief once stood.

This accession consists of two pamphlets produced by the Mackenzie River Transport Company in 1938. The first is a Schedule of Sailings for the 1938 season, and the second is an advertisement entitled "To the Arctic: A Summer Trip Through Canada's Northwestern Waterways in Thirty-Five Days".

This accession consists of two file folders labelled Aklavik and Port Radium and site plans for Aklavik and Yellowknife. Inside the folders are charts illustrating daylight/twilight/darkness distribution at 66 degrees and 68 degrees North and two internal memorandums about Aklavik and Port Radium written by Margaret R. Montgomery for the Northern Operational Research Section, Department of National Defence. Also in the folders are three maps (0001) Hydrographic chart of Great Bear Lake, (0002) site plan of Port Radium, and (0003) Road & Rail Routes in the Northwest.

Records include photographs documenting the construction of a mooseskin boat, the construction of a spruce bark canoe, and the tanning of a moose hide and a copy of Gloria Fedirchuk's proposal to film aboriginal adaptations and their relationship to the boreal forest environment of the Fisherman Lake Slave, including ethnographic practices, ethnobotanical information on use and taxonomy of flora, ethnozoological information on use of fauna, activities done in various seasons of the year, and the construction and creation of ethnographic items.

The films were largely shot by Otto Binder and depict life in the Beaufort Delta region, and the community of Reindeer Station in particular. Footage of travel by water, as well as reindeer herding activities feature prominently. Shots of family and community life are also within the collection.

The DVD is a copy of an 8 mm film of home movies shot in Fort Simpson in the 1950s by Ron Cree. The film depicts life in the settlement at that time.
The film footage and stills include images of the community of Fort Simpson, barges and planes, notable people such as the Kraus family and the Linbergs, activities such as the arrival of Cat trains and supplies, RCMP buildings, mission buildings, the experimental farm and the royal visit of Prince Philip to Fort Simpson.

This accession consists of 27 black and white photographs of Yellowknife and the surrounding area featuring mine sites, road construction and buildings.

The film was shot in Inuvik and the Mackenzie delta region circa 1964-1967. The filmmaker is Terry F. Keim. The film features the [196? and 1967] Inuvik Muskrat Jamboree, aerial views of Inuvik, various buildings in the townsite, airplanes and the Inuvik airport, and extensive footage of drum dancers in traditional costumes. A complete shot listing is located in the accession file.

This accession consists of a composite map used by Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue in the search for pilot Marten Hartwell, nurse Judy Hill and medivac patients David Pisurayak Kootook and Neemee Nulliayok following a plane crash on November 8, 1972.

The item is made of a series of aeronautical maps that were adhered together and annotated. Two sets of plastic overlays detailing search grids and the actual crash site are also annotated. The maps used depict the geographical area from Spence Bay southeast to Great Bear Lake and southwest to Great Slave Lake.

The accession consists of a commemorative album titled "The Edmonton Bush Pilots: Northwest Territories Centennial Flight, August, 1970" compiled on behalf of the City of Edmonton for the NWT Centennial. It is a tribute to the importance of aviation in the histories of both Edmonton and the Northwest Territories. The album contains: a list of bush pilots; a chronology of events from 1904-1970, relating to the Edmonton Industrial Airport (Blatchford Field) and the associated pilots; brief profiles of selected bush pilots; and 23 black and white copy photographs of aviation, dated primarily in the 1920s and 1930s.

This accession consists of two photographs taken at Great Bear Lake in 1953.

Although the majority of the images were taken by Father Gathy between 1929 and 1954, a few images of Father Gathy were borrowed from collections held by the O.M.I. Archives in Fort Smith and the Sisters of Saint Joseph Archives in Mount St. Joseph, Ontario. Although the images are mainly of Yellowknife, Fort Norman and Fort Franklin, some were taken aboard the "S.S. McKenzie River". Many of the photographs depict members of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Grey Nuns. There are also images of Dene residents and camps in and around Fort Franklin and Fort Norman. There are a few images of children wearing rabbit skin clothing and one of mooseskin boats.

The images depict daily life, mine employees, the camp and mining operations at Port Radium. In addition, there are several images of Northern Transportation Company Limited tugboats, barges and paddle steamers, as well as locations such as Hay River, Norman Wells and Inuvik.

The videocassettes consist of "Birch Bark Baskets" (English version) 21 min.; "Making a Birch Sled" (Slavey version) 21 min.; and "The Spruce Canoe" (English version) 21 min. The canoe was built by Johnny Klondike. The videos were filmed by Francine Betthale, produced by the Fort Liard Band Council, and funded by the GNWT Department of Culture and Communications and Dene Nation.
