This accession consists of textual records relating to the Aboriginal (Indigenous) affairs and intergovernmental relations functions of the Department of the Executive. The records document Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) involvement in various land claims, including those with the Dene-Metis, Sahtu, Gwich'in, Tunngavik Federation of Nunavut, Tlicho, and Treaty 8 organizations, covering both negotiation and implementation of the land claims. The records also document post-agreement negotiations with the Inuvialuit over land access by the GNWT, land and resource management, political and constitutional development, and self-government by Indigenous groups.
