Records include files from the Employment Division series (67 Block) of the Central Registry filing system and include committee records, community employment files, liaison with local industry files, liaison with other government agencies, local initiatives program files, Inuit relocation files, apprenticeship program files, Manpower Needs Committee files, Employment of Native Northerners files, training programme files and monthly regional reports.

The records are related to ECE-led interagency committees and working groups as well as ECE programs including NWT Teacher Qualification, Adult Basic Education Curriculum Development, Teacher Induction, GNWT Training Group, Secondary Diamond Industries Working Group, Nunavut Unification Human Resource Development Strategy, Canada-NWT Agreement for French and Aboriginal Languages, and the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Steering Committee. Also included are Senior Management Committee meetings, Minister's Statements and Briefing Notes, and an agreement signed between ECE and the Dogrib Community Services Board.

Records date from [1976]-1979 and include population estimates, family allowance statistics, evaluations of a drug and alcohol council, and two evaluations of Frobisher Bay after closure of a liquor store. There are also a number of program evaluations covering topics such as apprenticeship, daycare, subsidized term employment, rehabilitation of disabled persons, operations of a student residence in Fort Smith and in-service training.

Part of Northwest Territories. Department of Transportation fonds

The majority of records consist of files that deal with the Northern Management Program (NMP) administered by the Department of Transportation in conjunction with Arctic College. The NMP was designed to provide training opportunities for people from the USSR and other northern countries. The training revolved around construction and desing techniques for northern communities. The program was in part the result of the USSR/Canada exchange program which allowed engineers, contractors and other professionals involved in construction to visit the other country to see other construction techniques.

Records include photographs of school-oriented subjects such as classroom settings, school openings and events, awards presentations, and graduating classes dating from the 1980s and 1990s. Photographs also relate to departmental programs such as Arctic College, literacy programs, and special needs programs. The photographs are mainly of Yellowknife but also include photographs of school environments in Sachs Harbour, Fort Liard, and Fort McPherson.

Records include a photograph of the members of the first Teacher Education Program class. Original print was stamped McDermid Studios Ltd. Edmonton. Included in the class were Robert 'Bobby' Overvold and Cindy Kenny Gilday.

Records include funding agreements and other material related to student assistance programs, including the Northern Student Education Initiative, University/College Entrance Preparation Program, and Canada Millennium Bursaries.

Records also consist of reports from the NWT Labour Force Development Forum, "The Bridge to my Future-A Report on Adult Basic Education in the NWT," and proceedings from a roundtable that was held on workplace literacy, and a report on literacy initiatives in the NWT.

Records date from 1994-1998 and include plans and program files that relate to delivery and development of programs managed by the division. Records include correspondence, copies of program development material such as policy, framework documents, action plans, manuals and final reports for such programs as “Youth First”, the Student Success program which resulted in the production of the “Getting In, Staying In, Getting Out” A Plan for Post-Secondary Student Success, the Working Together Youth Program and Career Development Certificate Program that is delivered by Aurora College. Additionally, there are program review files related to the Student Financial Assistance Program and Income Support reform. Records also include strategic initiatives for the division including the integration of income support and career development, description and summary of an oil and gas training workshop that was developed by the division, and a file related to the division of the Northwest Territories and its impact on the College and Career Development Division.

There are also briefing notes and a decision paper concerning the Student Financial Assistance program.

Records date from 1992-1996 and include records from the Arctic College Board of Governors and relate to the planned decentralization of the head office of Arctic College from Yellowknife to Fort Smith and Iqaluit. In addition, there is a copy of a Literacy Proposal to Multiculturism and Citizenship Canada that was submitted by Arctic College. There are also records related to departmental strategic planning and the creation of the Strength at Two Levels document and People: Our Focus, Our Future - A Strategy to 2010. In addition, there are records related to the Senior Secondary Community Schooling Policy, ECE Senior Management Committee, ECE Executive Committee, Information Steering Committee and Traditional Knowledge Committee.
