This fonds consists of approximately 8.5 cm of textual material and 8 photographs. The material is made up of five cookbooks and ledgers that were generated by the activities of the Daughters of the Midnight Sun, as well as correspondence, by-laws, membership lists, and loose recipes. The cookbooks were issued by the organization between 1941-1970. In addition to recipes, the cookbooks contain a brief history of the club, advertising, photographs and a list of the club's membership in January 1947 and in August 1955. One ledger that belonged to the Daughters of the Midnight Sun appears to date from June 17, 1968 until September 1969. The ledger includes receipts for the cookbooks issued in that year. Two other ledgers (financial statements) date from 1979 to 1985. The photograph was taken in 1971 and shows the Daughters of the Midnight Sun membership standing in front of the Capitol Theatre.

This accession consists of 7.5 cm of textual records comprised of academic publications authored by Miriam Leith, as well as a large number of draft and research notes produced by Ms. Leith in her research on northern food and nutrition as well as housing programs. Files also contain correspondence and reports concerning northing housing programs. Related to Ms. Leith's work with the Adult Housing Education Program. Also included in the collection are copies of diet information and recipes distributed to the local people. Some of these materials are written in syllabics.

Included are files related to promotional materials produced by the department. Subjects and titles include safe sex, "Women's Health Care Rights, "Getting Ready for your Visit to your Health Care Provider", women's self esteem. There are also records related to abortion, AIDS, and the provision of dental services. The videos are primarily promotional videos produced by or for the department. The video pertain to proper nutrition and include the following titles: "Northern Nutrition", "Facts about Junk Food", "Healthy Eating and Exercise the Northern Way", "Buying Food", "Power over Diabetes", "Nutrition During Pregnancy", "Infant Nutrition" and "Dene Bush Food and Canada's Food Guide". Some of the videos are available in English, Dogrib, Chipewyan, South Slavey, North Slavey and Inuktitut.

Records date from 1979-1982 and consist of published reports. Records include reports multiple topics, including the objectives of the Board, population studies, imported foods to the Northwest Territories, wind energy, aquatic resources, arctic marine mammals, dietary habits of native populations and animal management.

Records include Regional Health Board meetings; nutrition promotion programs; community visit reports from the regional nutritionist; reports from the Brighter Futures funding program; committees involved in health promotion and awareness on issues such as family violence and HIV/AIDS; arctic contaminants; and women's health issues such as maternal/cord blood monitoring efforts.

Records include files related to homecare, seniors' housing needs, AIDS, handicap services and pharmacare. The records also include copies of meeting minutes from various regional health authorities as well as files from the NWT Health Coordinating Committee.
