The images document Fred North's time in Inuvik (1957-1963 as principal of Sir Alexander Mackenzie School; 1965-1966 either as vice-principal of the new school or back at SAMS; 1967-1973 at one of the schools, probably as principal), Fort Simpson (1963-1965 as school principal) and Yellowknife (1973-1979 - spent one or two years as school principal in Lac la Martre / Whatı̀. Then he served as Superintendent of School Services-Operations ordering furnishings and supplies for all NWT schools). The images show schools, students, teachers, and classrooms, as well as northern events like carnivals, royal visits, and Northern Games. There are also images of various communities and the buildings within them.

The plan was produced in response to the City of Yellowknife's call for proposals for development plans for the city's waterfront areas and includes detailed lot drawings of Latham Island, Jolliffe Island and the Old Town area of Yellowknife.

The photographs were taken, collected or purchased by the photographer for the GNWT. The photographs depict the following subjects: images of people, communities in the Northwest Territories, scenery, wildlife, traditional land use, hospitals, Royal Canadian Mounted Police buildings, schools, infrastructure of communities, water, air and land transportation, sports and recreation, hunting, fishing, traditional clothing, political leaders, government buildings, camps, mines, DEW line sites, events such as Arctic Winter Games, Expo '86, Canada Day, churches, airports, housing, dogsledding, fauna, arts and crafts and performing arts. Many of the photographs were taken by Tessa MacIntosh, Bob Wilson, Fran Hurcomb, Bruce Sekulich and D. Milligan, Government Photographers in the 1980s and early-1990s.

Records consist of materials collected as resource information for the project entitled "Two Faces of a Northern Neighbourhood: An Historical Evaluation of the Willow Flats - Woodyard" (1985) The material includes a photocopy of an historical assessment of the Woodyard. The 3 plans of the Woodyard area are dated 1946 and 1985. The DAT audio cassette contains interviews with former residents, June Magrum, John Larson and Mary Frost. In addition, there are data sheets and summaries of the interviews.

Records consist of one bound volume containing the settlement plans (lots) for the communities of Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Hay River, Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman [Tulita], Fort Good Hope, Fort Liard, Fort Rae [Behchoko], Fort Wrigley, and Fort McPherson.

Records include photographs documenting the exteriors of most of the public buildings and facilities in Fort Simpson and showing representative examples of housing.

The colour slides depict community buildings (schools, churches, hospitals), people, scenery, activities and special events in the following communities: Hay River, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman, Rae, Port Radium, Lac La Martre, Fort Good Hope, Fort Franklin, Fort McPherson, Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife, Coppermine, Jean Marie River, Fort Liard, Nahanni region, Aklavik, Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Fort Providence, Wrigley, Fort Fitzgerald, Arctic Red River, Reindeer Station, Whale Cove, Norman Wells, Iqaluit and Rocher River. In addition, 19 black and white photographs show children and housing conditions in Yellowknife and on Latham Island in 1969. There are also several images of Rae that portray people, the church, Treaty time and Chief Susie Bruneau. The majority of the films were produced by the Government of the Northwest Territories for different departments; the subject matter of the films deal with Prohibition in the North, education, the Mackenzie Bridge and life in the North.

The images depict daily life, mine employees, the camp and mining operations at Port Radium. In addition, there are several images of Northern Transportation Company Limited tugboats, barges and paddle steamers, as well as locations such as Hay River, Norman Wells and Inuvik.

The majority of the slides depict community life and residents of the communities of Fort Rae (Behchoko), Fort Providence, and Fort Simpson. There are also a few images from other communities in the NWT and several images depicting Dene children visiting Calgary on a field trip called "Operation Dogrib" organized by Emile and Evalyn Gautreau.

Accession includes records from the Infrastructure Development division of the NWT Housing Corporation, primarily design and construction project files, project correspondence, tender and contract administration, and negotiated contract files. Records document the Market Housing Initiative (modular housing), seniors housing initiatives in several communities, as well as technical reports and maintenance assessments of the Somba K'e Healing Lodge, Jimmy Erasmus Seniors Home, Inukshuk Housing Cooperative, and Rockhill Apartment Building.

Records in this accession primarily include design and construction project files. Also included are reports and surveys, partnership agreements, collective agreements, and documentation of the district office's administration of housing and homeownership programs.

This accession consists of records including an overview of the Rent Scale for public housing from the NWT Housing Corporation Resource Centre, as well as a Social Housing Annual Review for the year 1988.

Records include program administration files and cost-shared program files relating to housing in Rae-Edzo (Behchoko), including homeownership programs, rent scale harmonization, housing inventory assessment, and staff housing.

Records include correspondence: Ministerial Chronos (Minister's Chronos) and President's Chronos (Deputy Head's Chronos).

The images include mine sites, Arctic Red River in 1925, river transportation, a hand coloured photo of Fort Simpson taken by C. W. Mathers, circa 1901, the Ingraham hotel, 1947, reindeer at Richard Island and a rock inscribed "S. Hearne, July 1767."

This artificial collection includes photos of the 1961 Northwest Territories Tourist Association convention, Con Mine, Discovery Mine, Giant Mine, Negus Mine, Rycon Mine and mining activities in the 1930s. In addition, there are images of Yellowknife, Detah (Indian Village) [Dettah], and Goldfields, SK in the 1930s and 1940s and Federal Government employees based in Yellowknife in the 1950s.
