Records consist of materials collected as resource information for the project entitled "Two Faces of a Northern Neighbourhood: An Historical Evaluation of the Willow Flats - Woodyard" (1985) The material includes a photocopy of an historical assessment of the Woodyard. The 3 plans of the Woodyard area are dated 1946 and 1985. The DAT audio cassette contains interviews with former residents, June Magrum, John Larson and Mary Frost. In addition, there are data sheets and summaries of the interviews.

Records consist of 2 reports, entitled "Report on Port Burwell" and "Kennuayuak Association." The "Kennuayuak Association" report was compiled by R.S. Pilot, then Regional Director, Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) and was addressed to NWT Commissioner Stuart Hodgson. It also contains minutes of a meeting held between local government officials and Inuit on June 11, 1971. The "Report on Port Burwell," compiled by the Committee on Port Burwell, refers to the future of the community.

Records include interim and final reports from the Special Committee on Housing and recordings of the public and other community hearings. The DAT cassettes were copied from the original audiocassettes in October 1995; the recordings are in a variety of native languages and contain simultaneous translations. The transcripts of the recordings are grouped as follows: Baffin/High Arctic Tour, June 1984; Western Arctic Tour, July 1984; Southern Mackenzie Tour, August 1984; Yellowknife/Kitikmeot Tour, September 1984; and the Keewatin Tour, October 1984. The November 1984 interim report is available in both English and Inuktitut syllabics.

Records include policy files, reports and studies, correspondence, and case files related to tourism, co-ops, arts and crafts, community stores and other business, and loan programs. The files were held by the Central Registry and include some records created by the department's predecessors, including the Department of Economic Development, the Department of Industry and Development, and records from the federal government.

The slides depict the following communities: Inuvik (Series 1); Trout Lake (Series 2); Jean Marie River (Series 3); Snare Lake (Series 4); Yellowknife (Series 5); Fort Wrigley (Series 6); Rae Edzo (Series 7); Tuktoyaktuk (Series 8); Tungsten (Series 9); Fort Franklin (Series 10); Coral Harbour (Series 11); Pelly Bay (Series 12); Coppermine (Series 13); Pine Point (Series 14); and Hay River (Series 15). The images are dated between 1980-1985. In addition, there are 80 slides with an accompanying audiocassette and manual from a unit entitled "Our Students, Our Future: Shaping Education in the NWT" (Series 16). This unit was developed in 1990 and included images that depicted students and education related activities in the Northwest Territories. A manual and audiocassette, produced by the Student Support Division, to help assist in the slide presentation is included with this accession. There is also 1 cm of textual material consisting of descriptions for the slide presentations on Pelly Bay and Yellowknife.

The records document the (Tlicho) Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project, which began in 1997 and was completed in 2000. The 73 slides are dated June 18, 1998 and document a Feeding the Fire ceremony that celebrated the return of Bear Lake Chief's Caribou Skin Lodge from the University of Iowa. The ceremony took place at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The images depict drumming, hand games, and the exhibit at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. In addition, there are electronic records in MS Word and Excel related to the project and the trip Tom Andrews, Archaeologist at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, took to Iowa and to the Smithsonian Institute. The remaining records document the construction of two replica lodges for display and educational purposes. This part of the project was completed in partnership with the Dogrib Community Services Board, Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and Dogrib Treaty 11 Council. The are also electronic records in MS Word and Excel containing videotape logs and interview transcripts, as well as approximately 379 digital images documenting the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project. The audio material consists of the narration for the video by Margaret Mackenzie. The remaining video and textual records consist of hard copies of the video narration script, video voice over scripts with annotations, transcripts of videotaped interviews with Adele Wedawin, Bernadette Williah, Edward and Melanie Weyallon and Joe and Mary Champlain, video logs for reels 1 through 30 which includes a description of the content of each reel, a web page transcript of the project, basic program layout for the Skin Tent Program, a script outline for the project and an overview of the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project. The video material consists of 30 Betacam copies of raw footage of the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge project, one Betacam master and two VHS copies entitled "The Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge," two VHS copies entitled "Return of the Tent" from the University of Iowa Natural History Museum, a VHS tape containing footage of a tipi ceremony that took place at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in September 1997, three VHS tapes containing unedited footage of the outdoor ceremony for the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge and an interview with Tom Andrews about the project, a VHS tape from the University of Iowa entitled 1996 Powwow, a VHS tape of the program No Name Youth Show from October 19, 1998, produced by TVNC, containing footage from the tipi ceremony and one Betacam tape marked 'tea dance.'

Records date from 1955-1986 and consist of published reports. There are several reports on the Commissioner's tours of the arctic. There are also reports covering many topics including personnel management, administration, senior management conferences, the proposed Mackenzie Valley pipeline, employee housing, legal aid recommendations, settlement information in the Keewatin region, communities in the Inuvik region, housing and social environment, the administration of justice in the Hay River area, NWT economic prospects, labour standards and relations, and a proposed Great Slave National Park. There is also a travel brochure, a brochure commemmorating Marble Island, and two newsletters from the NWT Pavilion at Expo '86 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Also included are monthly reports from the Field Services Offices of the communities comprising the region, including Igloolik, Arctic Bay, and Cape Dorset.
