The negatives were made from photographic prints taken by the donor's father Frederick B. "Ted" Watt. The images date from 1929-1933 and include first air mail flight to Aklavik, images of floatplanes and pilots, prospecting and staking activities and the establishment of the Cameron Bay settlement and mine.

These are copies of photographs which belonged to Wop May. Though many of the images are not dated, the original photographs appear to date from circa 1928 to 1948. Many of the photographs were taken in northern Alberta, but locations in the Northwest Territories include Aklavik, Cameron Bay, Fort Norman [Tulita], Rae, Arctic Red River [Tsiigehtchic], Hay River, Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, and Fort Resolution. The images include pilots, aircraft, mining exploration, and various aspects of air mail delivery and the aviation industry.

The accession is comprised of telegrams and correspondence concerning the construction of a landing strip at Wrigley in 1938.

The textual material dates from 1978-1988 and consists of Exhibit Storyline and Exhibit Content Plans for the North and South Galleries at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. In addition, there are Exhibit scripts for Chapters in Our History, The North before People, Greenland Kayak Exhibit, Dene Women's Art Exhibit and the traveling exhibit about "The Land." The textual material also includes two Pilot's Log Books from 1928 and 1946 that belonged to Walter James Beaumont. The sound recordings contain interviews with J. Davids and H. Hollick-Kenyon, Denny May, Cam Jordheim and Mark Dodd. The content of the material focuses on aviation in the north, bush pilots, and Wop May. It is likely that this material was used in developing the aviation exhibit at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The 2 videocassettes are in Umatic or Betacam formats and consist master copies of "Trapline Lifeline" and "Wings of Change." "Trapline Lifeline" was a traveling exhibit that examined the history and modern-day realities of fur trapping. The exhibit contained an audio-visual section that included video footage of interviews with trappers and an overview of life in northern communities. "Wings of Change" is the video component from the aviation gallery at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.

Records include documents relating to the B and C Arctic Airports transfer agreement with the Federal government, including an MOU from 1991, briefing notes regarding the transfer from 1988-1989, and a briefing book regarding the agreement from 1990-1991.

Records include files on departmental organization, personnel policy, staffing policy, an information technology strategy and a review of the department's finance and administration functions. There are also records of DOT submissions regarding the NWT Public Service Vehicles Act, the National Transportation Agency Review Commission and the Royal Commission on National Passenger Transportation are also included. This accession also includes Deputy Minister briefing books for Main Estimates and the Standing Committee on Finance, as well as Briefing Notes and Options Papers. As well, agreements relating to the devolution of Arctic 'A' airports (Yellowknife, Hay River, Norman Wells, Inuvik, Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Cambridge Bay, Iqaluit and Resolute) to the department, and an organizational review relating to the transfer of responsibilities are also included in this accession.

Records include files related to devolution and the transfer of responsibilities relating to Arctic 'A' Airports from the Federal to the Territorial Government as well as departmental interaction with Transport Canada. Records also consist of briefing notes and ministerial correspondence with the Director's Office. There are also records that relate to Aviation Studies, Arctic Airports Management Team, Arctic Airports Staff Meetings, Arctic 'B' and 'C' Airports Steering Committee, Senior Management Committee, Airports Training Committee, Departmental Management Group. Additionally records include files related to Airport Planning, Emergency Services, Municipal Administration Certification Group (MACP), Advisory Committee Northern Development (ACND), Northern Air Transport Association (NATA), Airport Operations Sub-Committee, and the Air Navigation Sub-Committee. Records also include project files related to the Rae/Edzo Community Planning Report, the Engineering Site Report for development of the airstrip at Snowdrift (Lutselk'e), and the Arctic Airport Master Plan for Pine Point. The photographs date from the 1970s and document airstrip construction in various Northwest Territories communities.

Records relate to the transfer of the Arctic Airports program from the Government of Canada to the Government of the Northwest Territories. Records also include decision papers, memorandum of agreement and correspondence related to the transfer Arctic Airports to the GNWT. In addition, there are terms of reference and minutes from the Arctic Airports Transfer Management Committee, and meeting minutes from the Airports Working Group.

Records include guiding principles for transfer of airports from the GNWT to the communities through the Community Transfer Initiative. Records also include briefing notes, terms of reference, meeting minutes, discussion papers and correspondence. In particular records focus on the transfer of airports in the Keewatin region.

Records include files on airport safety and a Crash Fire Rescue (CFR) policy.

Records include files related to the transfer of airport services in the Keewatin, Senior Management Committee (SMC) meetings, northern roads development policy, winter roads, division of assets with the creation of Nunavut, and studies related to ports and wharves.

Records include Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos, and one file regarding an airports conference.

This accession consists of records of the Corporate Services division of the Department of Transportation, including an Airport Runway Study, Community Access Program agreements, and reports and lists from the Math and Science Awards program.

Records include Department of Transportation Engineering Recruitment Plan, issues files relating to distracted driving and airport taxi services (including a petition signed by Yellowknife taxi drivers), meeting materials, briefing materials for the Deputy Minister (topics include City of Yellowknife Bypass road, Dettah Access Road, YKDFN Economic Development Opportunities), records relating to a review of the Business Incentive Policy (BIP), records relating to the development of P3 (Public Private Partnership) guidelines, and the Deputy Minister's briefing books for presentations to the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure on Air Market Development and Runway Issues.

This accession consists of records from the Environmental Affairs division of the Department of Transportation. Records include environmental reviews and assessments, in particular soil and groundwater monitoring and remediation of Arctic 'A' airport sites. Also included are environmental reviews and workshops relating to winter roads, ice roads, and prospective resource extraction (mining) projects.

Records include photographs of the Viking Yellowknife Gold Mines Limited property at Morris Lake. The photographs were taken in the summer of 1947 and depict a Fox Moth airplane (CF-BNI) moored on the mine property, where Byrne was working as a consultant mining engineer. There are also photographs of Norman W. Byrne, his wife Rose, and his son Donald.

This accession consists of six black and white negatives depicting a variety of aircraft such as the Gypsy Moth, Bellanca Air Cruiser, and a Biplane among others in Yellowknife and at Giauque Lake.
