The photographs date from 1944 to the early 1950s and most document mining sites and mining activities in the Yellowknife area. The gold mines depicted include: Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company, Ltd.; Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; Akaitcho Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; Crestaurum Gold Mines, Ltd.; Discovery Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; North Inca Gold Mines, Ltd.; Thompson-Lundmark Gold Mines, Ltd.; and Diversified Mining Interests (Canada), Ltd. Also included are photographs of Old Town and the new town site in Yellowknife, the archaeological site near Old Fort Reliance and Dene preparing hides at Lac La Martre. Most of the images were photographed by Webster, but are included is a series of George Radisics' photographs and an album that Carl Pielsticker compiled. The postcards consist of images of Yellowknife and the greeting cards show drawings of Yellowknife.

The original textual material includes handwritten and typewritten letters written by Archie Jamieson, his family, friends that worked at Outpost Island and J.J. Byrne. In addition, there are original proxy forms for the Slave Lake Gold Mines Shareholders Committee, a share certificate, and an envelope addressed to Archie Jamieson that is stamped Outpost Island Post Office, 1941. There is also a Report to Bondholders and Shareholders from Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., three blank proxy forms for the Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., as well as correspondence and a copy of a Supreme Court of Ontario ruling under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act, 1933. In addition, there is some photocopied textual material consisting of published information about mineral development at Outpost Island, a diamond drill record, as well as copies of correspondence related to the operation of the mine The photographs date between the 1940s and 1990s and include both black and white and colour photographs, as well as 13 copy digital photographs. The photographs depict the Outpost Island mine site, staff and buildings including the mill, the boat used by employees to leave the site and former recreation centre. The map is of the Northwestern part of Canada and identifies the location of Outpost Island, and the distances from Outpost Island to Fort Resolution, Yellowknife and Edmonton.

The textual records consist of a membership certificate. The majority of the photographs document Sam’s life prospecting, mining, and trapping between 1930 and 1950, while a smaller selection document Sam’s nuclear family life beginning in 1952. There are five main series of photographs: work in the Great Bear Lake region with the Northern Transportation Company and uranium mines in the early to mid-1930s; gold mining, camping, and prospecting in the Great Slave Lake area in the mid-1930s through the 1940s; work on the Canol project in 1942-1943; trapping on the barren lands (tundra) of the Keewatin region near Clinton-Colden Lake and the Back River area in the late 1930s to 1950; and Sam’s nuclear family life from 1952 onwards. Communities documented in this fonds include early images of Yellowknife’s Old Town and Latham Island, Fort Franklin (Deline), Cameron Bay camps, Norman Wells, Fort Resolution, and Fort Smith. The moving images document being on the land, prospecting, and hunting between 1930 and 1960, and town and family life between 1950 and 1970.
The digital files (TIFF) are scans of the original black and white negatives, black and white prints, and colour negatives, while the videocassettes are transfers from the original 8mm and 16mm film reels, all created by Sam Otto and loaned by his son Sheldon in 2000. The majority of the originally loaned items were returned by Sam Otto's daughter Lorraine in 2015, in addition to some newly offered materials.

McLaren, Duncan D.Photographs depict the abandoned Thompson-Lundmark Gold Mine site and show the Kim shaft, mine site, and equipment inside the mill. The ravenous forest fires of the summer of 1998 and Mr. Regier's particular interest in old places combined to inspire he and a colleague to charter a float plane to visit the Thompson-Lundmark site. Their timing was fortunate, as the site burned the following day.

Two of the photographs are mounted on calendars from 1952. The single image (:0001) shows Con camp in July 1936. It shows three aircraft and several tents. One of the two calendars was distributed by Ted Cinnamon, Yellowknife agent for Imperial Oil Ltd and features a photograph (:0003) showing oil trucks, a tractor train, and oil tanks along the shore of Great Slave Lake - Latham Island. The second calendar features a picture (:0002) of a boat, possibly the Radium Yellowknife and was distributed by the Lakeview Coffee Shop.
This accession consists of six black and white photographs taken by Jack Horan in Yellowknife and one illustrated oversize newspaper insert from the "Edmonton Bulletin" entitled "Yellowknife! World's Largest Potential Gold Field". The photographs show miners, and the Con Mine site.

The textual material is made up of 3 prospecting field books containing dating from 1926, 1927 and 1953, as well as a small number of Canadian Wildlife Service Bird Band cards dated 1955-1959. In addition there is one five page written report by W.L. McDonald in 1958 on the Mar Mineral Claims at Marian Lake, a number of hand drawn maps that relate to the mining of lithium in the Yellowknife area and a diary found at Jolliffe Island containing weather observations and bird watching notes from 1940-1948. Also included are five pages of handwritten notes on northern birds, found in his cabin on Jolliffe Island. The images include portraits of William McDonald and companions, as well as pictures of eagles. Mr. McDonald collected these images circa 1969 and negatives were copied from the original photographs in 1990.
McDonald, WilliamThis fonds consists of 456 photographs, 4 postcards and 2 cm of textual material. The majority of the photographs were contained in photo albums but have been removed. The photo albums include captions and two bear titles: "Ice Conditions - Bear River Upon Opening of Bear River Camp, June 1950" and "Operations on Bear River - 1951 Including Portaging of "Radium Franklin" and barges, and freight operations Bear River and Franklin." The third album documents a survey camp in the Great Bear River region during the 1930s; Hunter obtained the album from a surveyor. The photographs predominantly document Port Radium and Cameron Bay during the 1930s. The images depict life at the uranium mine, recreational activities, mining operations, mining employees, transportation and wildlife in the area. In addition, there are images of Fort Resolution, Fort Reliance, water transportation along Great Slave Lake, whaling and trapping. The loose colour photographs taken in 1980, document the portaging of the "Radium Franklin." Additional black and white photographs from the 1930s and 1940s feature Canol camps, Norman Wells and riverboats.
The textual material consists of a diary of a trip to the north compiled by David Walker, a writer hired by the Northern Transportation Company (NTCL), NTCL schedules and rates from 1938 and 1940, a copy of NTCL letterhead and a photocopy of Hudson's Bay Company Fleet schedules.

The photographer of these images is unknown. They were produced by Bush Edit House and may have been taken by the firm's owner, Burt Bush, who was a film producer in North Vancouver and was often contracted by resource companies for their corporate presentations.

Coutts work in the Great Bear Lake region between 1932 and 1934. Subjects include prospectors and prospecting, mining camps and methods of transportation. A number of images depict the first radium-silver veins that were exposed and worked near Radium City (later known as Port Radium). In addition, there is a diary written by Robert A. Coutts between July 22, 1932 and December 6, 1932. He made regular entries in the diary, usually daily or every second day. The diary contains detailed information on events that occurred and people that Coutts met, both on his trip to Great Bear Lake and while he worked in the region.
