The file consists of correspondence with the Franklin Probe Society, regarding research notes and materials into the Franklin Expedition. The file also contains 14 b&w photographs, 20 x 25.3 cm, depicting various scenes ca. 1930s-1940s such as: aircraft wreckage at the Yellowknife Airport, the ship Fort James blocked in ice likely ca. 1934 , the St. Roch RCMP patrol vessel, a man biting the ear of a moose skull, a portrait two men dressed in parkas, airplane on floats.

Records detail the period just before and inclusive of Stuart Hodgson's term as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories (1967 to 1979), the move of government to the Territory, and the changes in government overtime, including the decentralisation of Territorial Government and the move to Local Government. The fonds also includes some documentation in his later work as Chair of the Canadian Section of the International Joint Commission, BC Ferries, and BC Transit. Records include professional and personal chronos including his entire tenure as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, as well as correspondence specific to relations with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (and its later iterations), personal correspondence, public and legislative addresses, issue files during his tenure as Commissioner, planning for Royal visits, Commissioner and Legislative Balls, the NWT Centennial, Arctic Winter Games, community tours, day timers and diaries.

This series consists of addresses given and collected by Stuart Hodgson. The majority of addresses are from his time as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, addressing the members of the Legislative Assembly and the public of the Northwest Territories. There are also a series of updates entitled Tuesday Letters, that both he and his predecessor B.G. Sivertz wrote for the NWT Council (predecessor of the Legislative Assembly). There are also addresses from his time as Co-Chair of the International Joint Commission.
