The textual records are comprised of copies of research, legal documents and reports related to Treaty 8, and is primarily concerned with taxation. The sound recording, entitled "The Winds of Change", was produced by CBC Calgary, most likely in the early-1970s. The documentary discussed the changes happening in the North. Northwest Territories' communities described in the piece included Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik, Yellowknife, Fort Smith, and Hay River.

The records have been arranged into four series: textual records, photographs, sound recordings and moving images. The textual records were then organized into six sub-series: Minutes of Full Executive Meetings, Minutes of the Triennial Conventions, Minutes of Meetings of NWTPSA and UNW Locals, "Sulijuq" newsletters, Collective Agreeements and UNW Filing System. The textual records document the development of the union movement in the Northwest Territories and the increasing politicization of the union's membership. They also document the internal administration and operations of the NWTPSA and the UNW, and their relationship to the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). The records also depict the relationship between the NWTPSA, UNW and the Northwest Territories Federation of Labour (NWTFLA). The textual records contain information on convention procedures, elections, the collection of union dues, revisions to By-Laws and Policies, and the transfer of federal employees to the territorial government. The sound and video recordings were made at the Triennial Conventions and the Full Executive Meetings. The photographs were taken at the Triennial Conventions, Full Executive Meetings, and at individual members' work-sites. There are also images of such political action campaigns as the annual Day of Mourning ceremonies, marches in support of striking workers at the Inuvik Housing Authority, Royal Oak Mines Limited, the federal government and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

The textual records consist of a 1921 article written by Fred Jackson for the Hudson's Bay Company publication "The Beaver" about the first planes in Fort Simpson; notes by John Berens on the 1924 wreck of the "S.S. Northland Trader" and barge "Bell Rock"; as well as Fred Jackson's 1921 radiotelegraphy (telegraph) licence. The photographs were originally housed in two albums titled "From the Land of the Midnight Sun" and feature various Dene and Inuit communities in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Also featured are steam ships, the Hay River Mission and school children.

The majority of the textual records dates from 1944-1999 and includes monthly operational reports and reports from the President, underground operations, diamond drilling and treatment plant for Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines Ltd. There are also meeting minutes, by-laws and constitution for the Giant Recreation Association and 10 Year Club, as well as menus and dinner invitations from 10 year club celebrations. There are also copies of the Giant Mine newsletter Baker Creek News. The remaining textual records consists of correspondence and monthly operational reports for the Salmita Mine, Taurcanis (Bulldog) Mine and Tundra Gold Mine. The photographs date from the 1950s to 1991 and include aerial views of Giant Mine, headframe buildings, tailings retreatment plant, tailings ponds, employees at work both above and underground, pouring of the 10,000th gold brick and safety awards. In addition, there are photographs of the Akaitcho Mine, Salmita Mine, Tundra Mine and Crestaurum Mine. There are also several black and white prints that were taken by George Hunter in the 1950s documenting activities at Giant Mine. The architectural plans show buildings and mine site layout for Taurcanis Mine. There are also blueprints, site plans and milling flow sheets from Giant Mine.

Records include photographs taken in and around Yellowknife. The images show people including Samuel James Ernest "Ernie" Ayrhart, his wife Mildred Dale Ayrhart, Doc and Doris McGill, Geddes Webster and Cam Wallbridge, as well as places in Yellowknife such as the Liquor Store, Mining Recorders Office and the Yellowknife Hotel. There are also images of prospecting camps and various views of Mr. Ayrhart's DC3, the Yellowknife Express. Also included in the accession are two autobiographical accounts of some of Mr. Ayrhart's experiences in the Northwest Territories. One contains identifications for some of the photographs; the other concerns the purchase and sale of the Yellowknife Express.

The textual records consist of transcipts of the sound recordings in Chipewyan as well as English translations. The recordings contain interviews with elders that lived in Salt River in the 1920s and 1930s. The elders interviewed were Francois King Beaulieu, Maria Brown, Vincent Beaulieu, Liza Schaefer, Francois Laviolette and Fred Dawson. Topics covered in the interviews include history of Beaulieu family, house construction, animal husbandry, farming and the effect of the major flood that took place at Salt River Settlement during the 1930s.

Records are comprised of a diary written by G.H.U. Bayly during a canoe trip from Campbell Lake to Beverly Lake via the Thelon Game Sanctuary. Included in the details of the diary are weather reports, observations of wildlife, including caribou and various bird species, and observations on topography. The diary also contains photocopies of photographs, including members of the party, maps, and excerpts from appropriately related reading materials (ie. Re: John Hornby). Included at the end of the diary is an index, equipment list and list of temperatures.

In addition, there is a copy of a brief: "The Choice of a Capital for the Northwest Territories," dated November 1965.

The textual records consist of correspondence from Father Brown (Bern Will Brown) to George Rysgaard as well as correspondence with Dr. Breckenridge, concerning the 1970 trip to the Thelon River area. The correspondence includes lists of mammals and birds observed, and plant specimens collected. The photographs depict several locations including Great Bear Lake, Colville Lake, Victoria Island and the Thelon Refuge. There are also images of Duncan Pryde, Father Bern Will Brown, and George Rysgaard. The films are about the following subjects: the topography, flora and fauna of the Thelon River area, Colville Lake and Victoria Island. The sound recordings consist of narration for the Colville Lake and Victoria Island films.

The textual records consist of transcripts that contain Dr. Cass' personal observations on the Gwich'in. These observations were made in 1959. Her recollections cover such topics as puberty, religious beliefs, burial customs, personal hygiene, marriage, music and dancing. The audio recordings contain a recording of Dr. Cass in early 1980, dictating letters for her secretary. She discusses her health and her recent trip to Brazil with the International Society of Geographic Opthalmology. She has also recorded many of the Gwich'in stories and legends that were related to her by such individuals as Paul Bonnetplume (Aklavik), Annie McPherson (Fort McPherson), Peter Lord (Old Crow, Yukon), Lazarus Sittichinli, Peter Moses and Edward Snowshoe. Although many of the legends relate to medicine men, Dr. Cass also recounts stories about the Willow Man, the Ungrateful Indian, Sakeethuck the "Trickster," the Crow Who Lost His Beak, the Lazy Boy, three stories about Bushmen [Hare and Slavey Indians] and a two hour saga about two brothers as told to her by Edward Snowshoe.

Records consist of two photo albums containing 146 black and white prints of Aklavik and environs and of Mary Saich's trip to Tuktoyaktuk; one scrapbook compiled by Mary Saich; one notebook including historical and geographical notes on the Northwest Territories and curriculum ideas; 145 black and white and colour slides. The photographs are of people in Aklavik and Tuktoyaktuk, images of barges and steamers, buildings such as the hospital, school, and church in Aklavik as well as winter and summer camps.
