The primary photographer was James Cameron, a engineer who worked on various projects across the North. Featured communities include Aklavik, Tsiigehtchic, Enterprise, Edzo, Fort McPherson, Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Hay River, the Hay River Reserve, Uluhaktok, Inuvik, Kakisa, Whati, Norman Wells, Paulatuk, Pine Point, Rae, Gameti, Wekweti, Trout Lake, Tuktoyaktuk and Yellowknife. The colour slides, identified by community, have short captions on their respective slide mounts.

Photographs date from 1960-2001 and include class photographs, individual portraits of students, basketball teams, the cafeteria and special events such as graduation and a visit from Prime Minister Trudeau in 1968. There is one photograph of the Akaitcho Hall reunion team that was taken in 2001.

Records are comprised of 'Franklin's Echo' and 'Echo' yearbooks, created by Sir John Franklin High School students in Yellowknife, dating from 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1969, 1970, 1971-72, 1974, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989. The accession also includes a government document entitled 'Prospectus: Sir John Franklin and Students' Residence, Akaitcho Hall', dating from 1960. There are also several letters addressed to Mr. Jeske, a former teacher at the school, from former students, largely relating to his role as the Driver Education Instructor.

Records include photographs related to the annual Canadian Championship Dog Derby, the spring dogsledding race held in conjunction with Caribou Carnival in Yellowknife, and the Matt Murphy trophy, the prize awarded to the winner. The photographs depict sled dogs in racing scenes, fans and dogs preparing for the start of the race, a musher holding a handful of awards, and the trophy itself.

The textual records include published and unpublished texts on Slavey and Tłı̨chǫ (Dogrib) literacy, linguistic and translation, dating from 1959 to the 1990s. The published material is partially religious, and partially linguistic in nature. A large portion of the unpublished material consists of stories told by both Tłı̨chǫ and Slavey speakers on traditional knowledge, legends, and personal stories. The sound recordings are in Tłı̨chǫ. The cassette tapes feature Vital Thomas from 1979 to 1983 providing Tłı̨chǫ field linguistic data, and the CDs were produced between 1999 and 2001 by the Dogrib Translation Committee and feature Marie Louise Bouvier-White reading passages from the Bible in Tłı̨chǫ.

Both copies were signed and dated August 25, 2003 in Rae-Edzo, Northwest Territories.

The textual records are comprised of one certificate, recording the establishment of the Council of the Order of St. John for the Northwest Territories on June 24, 1972, signed on the verso by some founding members; a 1979 Ball Programme for the NWT Council for the Order of St. John from November 24, 1979; and an oversized document describing the first animals at L.D. Livingstone's Polar Sea Dairy Farm in Aklavik. The photographs document the founding members of the NWT Council of St. John Ambulance, and the first induction of members to the Order of St. John. The sound recording is an LP record of 'Two Hands and For Ever: a new musical about Old Yellowknife', produced in 1978.

The textual records consist of a copy of a federal government report entitled 'Reference Guide to the NWT: Who's Who' and dates from 1990. The report includes profiles and contact information for prominent Northwest Territories leaders and organizations of the time. Both of the maps include handwritten annotations of Inuit placenames, in Inuktitut. The first map, of the Mackenzie Bay area, includes the far western reaches of the Northwest Territories' arctic coast region and includes portions of the Yukon and Alaska. The 1:1,000,000 scale map dates from 1956 and includes annotations near the area of Baillie Island and Cape Bathurst, near where the Anderson River meets the Beaufort Sea. The second map, of the western portion of central Victoria Island, includes the communities of Fort Collinson and Holman. The 1:500,000 scale map dates from 1963 and includes many annotations.

Photographs depict Yvette L. Park (nee Boileau). A sergeant in the Women's Army Corps in WWII, Mrs. Park visited her sister Leona Kirk in Aklavik in the late summer of 1946 after returning from overseas. While in Aklavik, Mrs. Park had a parka and mukluks made which have since been donated to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Mrs. Park was in Aklavik only 3 weeks and had the clothing sent to her in Timmins, Ontario. Three of the eight photographs are of the donor in Timmins in 1947 modeling the clothing.

Northern Musicians Project

Records include recordings and transcripts of interviews with northern musicians that were conducted by Pat Braden as part of a project supported by the Cultural Project Contribution Program of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The objective of the project was to interview northern 'pop' musicians in order to document their experiences and gain insight into the NWT music community between the 1950s and 1990s. The musicians interviewed included Archie Loutitt, Tony Buggins, Wilf Schidlowsky, George Mandeville, Albert Canadien, Angus Beaulieu, Herbie Beaulieu, Tom Hudson, John Tees, Alex Czarnecki, Gary Tees, Ted Wesley, Kevin Mackie, John Landry, Richard Lafferty, Pat Burke, and Allen Daniels.
