The map shows historic places and events across the Northwest Territories. The map was produced by the Federal Department of Energy Mines and Resources, 1970.

All 22 electoral regions are represented, and in addition, there is one large map of the NWT which shows each of the 22 districts.

The photographs, primarily aerial photographs, appear to have been collected by the Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources from a number of sources. The majority of the images are of Yellowknife, but the collection also includes images depicting Fort Rae (Behchoko), Tukotyaktuk, Aklavik, Inuvik, Paulatuk, Rocher River, and Shingle Point, Yukon.
