This fonds consists of 23 photographs, 7 cm of textual material and 1 cartoon-sketch of Wally Firth. The textual material includes one Hudson's Bay Company ledger listing financial transactions between 1901-1902 from the post at Fort McPherson, correspondence written by William Firth when he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company, a short biography of John Firth as well as newsletters and letters written by Wally Firth when he was a Member of Parliament. The photographic material consists of 26 photographic prints, predominantly copies made from cellulose nitrate negatives.

This accession consists of one annotated map of the Northwest Territories entitled "Map of the Dominion of Canada Showing the Establishments of the Hudson Bay Company's Fur Trade Department". This map, published in 1940, shows the locations of raw fur departments, fur trade posts, posts with Hudson Bay Company radio telegraph, and posts with meteorological stations and radio telegraph. The annotations show the locations of Waterways, Alberta, and Buffalo River and Clear Lake, Saskatchewan.

This fonds consists of 271 photographs, 6 audio reels, 3 sound cassettes and 2 cm of textual material. The photographs were taken and collected by the Buffum Family and depict the covers or interior images of personalized Christmas cards from bush pilots and other people who stayed with the Buffum family. The textual material is made up of the diary of Louise Buffum dated from 1939 to 1945. The sound recordings contain an interview conducted by the Territorial Archivist, David Rudkin with Lyn Orchuk in 1985.

The original audio cassette was copied to DAT circa 1988. The recording consists of an interview with K. Vaydik, a freelancer under contract with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Yellowknife. The discussion covered McDonald's early life, his activities as a geologist and prospector, travel to Yellowknife during the 1930s, a meeting with Jack Hornby, McDonald's opinion on developing a wilderness park at the east end of Great Slave Lake, trading posts, and his naturalist activities.

This fonds consists of one ledger of 'Indian Accounts' kept by A.N. Blake. The ledger documents the accounts of native traders in the Fort McPherson area.

This fonds consists of 543 photographs, 8 audio reels, 4 DAT audiocassettes, 7 16 mm films, 8 videocassettes and 2 cm of textual material. The photographic material consists of 543 prints and negatives. Included among the photographs are black and white images taken by Richard Finnie between 1939 and 1946. Some of these images were mounted into photograph albums and feature people and scenes of Yellowknife, Fort Rae, Aklavik, Fort Norman, Norman Wells, Fort Smith and the Canol Project. This fonds also includes images taken in 1931 of people at Coronation Gulf, photographs documenting Finnie's travels in the arctic during the 1920s and 1930s that depict aspects of the fur trade, mission work, government activities in the north including treaty payments, medical treatments, transportation, communication and the life of the Copper Inuit. In addition, there are images taken by Richard Finnie during a trip to Fort Rae at treaty time in 1974. Some of these photographs were included in an article that Finnie wrote for "The Beaver", Summer 1975, entitled "Treaty Time at Fort Rae". The fonds also includes a photograph album containing 142 colour prints entitled "Canol: The Authors Photographic Post Mortem" which was compiled by Finnie from photos of his 1977 tour of the remains of the Canol project.

The sound recordings consists of 8 audio reels (original masters) and 4 DAT audio cassettes (archival masters) containing the following: Trevor Lloyd interviewing Henry Larsen and Vilhalmjur Stefansson in 1962; E. M. Weyer interviewing Stefansson in 1955; and the soundtrack from the 1962 National Film Board film "Stefansson the Arctic Prophet." The moving images consist of 7 films created or collected by R.S. Finnie; the films were copied to 8 Umatic format videocassettes. The films are: "In the Shadow of the Pole" (1928); "The Arctic Patrol" (1929); "Among the Igloo Dwellers" (1930-31); "Ikpuck, The Igloo Dweller" (highlights from "Among the Igloo Dwellers"); "Patrol to the Northwest Passage" (1937); "The Dogrib Treaty" (1939); and "Canol" (1946?). The first two films listed cover the Eastern Arctic voyages of the "Beothic" (ship), and the next two focus on the Copper Inuit. "Patrol to the Northwest Passage" depicts the meeting of the "Nascopie" (ship) and "Aklavik" (ship).

The text consists of one file containing a copy of a draft of an unpublished manuscript entitled "Canol - The sub-arctic Pipeline and Refinery Project of Bechtel - Price - Callahan for the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army 1942-1944."

This fonds consists of photocopies of five statements of account for the Canalaska Trading Company (Limited) issued to Stephen Angulalik. The original items are dated July 30, 1938 and August 3, 1938. The statements list quantity, types and prices of materials purchased.

Records date from 1987-1996 and consist of fur dealer records and fur dealer return forms that were issued by the department. The fur dealer records include information such as the name of the trapper, license number, species, and the quantity and price received for the fur. The fur dealer returns also include the trappers name, license number, species, price, quantity and name of buyer. Records also include summary reports of community and regional fur returns.

Records include files related to fur pricing, the Arctic Wildlife Series and management plans for caribou and bison.

The photographs were originally housed in an album. Most of the prints have no accompanying information such as dates or identifications. The album contains images of mines and mining camps, fishing, hunting, fur trading, dog sledding, the Largent family and the city of Yellowknife. Most of the photographs were likely taken in the 1940's.

The cover page of the album reads: "This album was put together by Bill Largent. Bill spent from 1920 to 1951 in the Yellowknife and Hay River area. His parents were fur traders or supplied trading posts in these areas. Bill passed away in Nanaimo in 1981, July 25th."

Records include a genealogy of the Beaulieu family, beginning with Francois Beaulieu of Salt River, who was one of the guides leading Alexander Mackenzie to the Arctic Ocean in 1789 and to the Pacific Ocean in 1793. Also included in the text are biographical excerpts on the Beaulieu family taken from a range of oral accounts. At the end of the genealogy are photocopied images of various Chiefs from Fort Smith.

This fonds consists of 26 black and white prints. The images show Chipewyan shelters in the Fort Resolution area, fox pelts hanging behind the Northern Traders post in Fort Resolution, the graves of John Hornby, Edgar Christian and Harold Adelard, a Dene summer camp on the Taltson River, Dene women with caribou tanning frame and caribou.

This fonds consists of a typescript diary of Richard Bonnycastle's 1968 journey by plane from Fort Garry (Manitoba) through Alberta and down the Mackenzie River and back to Fort Garry. The narrative includes references to the trips he made while he was district manager for the Hudson's Bay Company. Places he visited on his journey included Fort Smith, Yellowknife, Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk and Aklavik.

The material consists primarily of administrative records relating to the maintenance of the post at Tsiigehtchic (Arctic Red River) and the duties of the officer. The records include: patrol diaries (1927-1953, 1944-1948 missing); patrol reports (1926-1934); some annual reports (1927-1931); financial records (1926-1943); requisitions (1926-1954, with gaps); shipping invoices (1929-1933); ledgers; fur export tax receipts and returns (1929-1943); hunting and trapping permits and returns (1926-1943); game licenses (1926-1942); trading post permits (1929-1942); radio receiving license receipts and returns (1927-1953); crown timber returns (1926-1943); liquor permits (1929-1939); income tax returns (1929-1942); marriage licenses (1951-1953); vital statistics records (1926-1943); some hunting and trapping records pertaining to the Yukon (1929-1954); administrative records such as instructions of various kinds (192?-1950); correspondence (1926-1953); a file on the administration of estates (1926-1948); and two maps containing hunting and trapping information.

The videocassette is entitled "How the Fur Trade Works" (South Slavey version), and runs 10 min. 15 sec.

The audio recording is of an interview with Laura Loutitt. The interview was conducted by the Assistant Archivist of the Northwest Territories Archives at the request of Laura Loutitt.

This fonds consists of approximately 1.4 m of textual material and 7 photographs. The textual material is made up of 5 bound Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) journals and one carbon copy of a journal, Seasonal Log books for their steamships. The journals are from the following HBC posts: King William Land, September 24, 1932 to November 10, 1933; Fort Hearne, August 14, 1930 to March 31, 1933; Fort Hearne, March 7, 1934 to January 5, 1935; Tree River, June 1, 1925 to May 31, 1926; and King William Land, June 1, 1930 to November 29, 1931. The carbon copy journal is for King William Land, and covers the period September 12, 1925 to April 30, 1940, except for the period covered by the above bound journals of that post. The Tree River journal was recorded by A. A. Carroll and Ray Ross. The steamship logs are either Deck or Engine Room logs for the Distributor, the Great Bear, the Hearne Lake, the Hudson, and the Mackenzie River. The photographs are of the participants of a Hudson's Bay Fur Trade Conferences of 1931, 1933 and 1937 held in Winnipeg and a list of names paying tribute to Victor Ingraham.
