This fonds consists of 935 copy photographs (35 mm negatives) of Fort Providence and its surrounding area. This is a collection of images featuring the work of many photographers including O.S. Finnie, Rene Fumoleau and Celine Lafferty. Most of the photographs were donated to the Research Project by the Catholic Mission. There are a variety of images including those of the residents of Fort Providence, the Roman Catholic Mission and clergy, agriculture and gardening. There appears to be some duplication within the collection.

This fonds consists of approximately 14 cm of textual records, dating from 1982 to 1989.

Records consist of pamphlets and manuals produced by the Department, on such topics as flood safety, motorcycle operation and drivers' licensing. There are manuals on various topics such as records management, how to write a government manual, Canada Post in the north, and the Index to organizationial change in the government of the Northwest Territories: 1967-1987.

Records from the Motor Vehicles division include policies of the division, and files relating to newly created seatbelt legislation for the Northwest Territories, and research surrounding it.

One map was published in 1827 and drawn by Jehoshaphat Aspin in 1826. It is entitled "Recent Discoveries in the Arctic Regions." The 1919 map was published in "Harmsworth's New Atlas" and the 1924 map was published by the Edinburgh Geographical Society.

This accession consists of a map titled "A Sketch Map of the Great Bear Lake Region in the Mackenzie District explored by J. Mackintosh Bell 1900", dated May 13, 1901 and apparently published by the Royal Geographic Society in its Geographical Journal of 1901.

The accession consists of one typed letter and envelope addressed to a Mr. Roland E. Muirhead, of Glasgow, Scotland, dated March 1st, 1922, which is signed by Fritjof Nansen. The letter thanks Muirhead for his contribution to the Russian Famine Relief appeal.

Records relate to the Yellowknife Public Library's Oral History Project dating from 1984-1985. The cassette tapes contain recorded interviews with prominent Yellowknife residents who were pioneers in their endeavours. Many of the interviewees and their families arrived in Yellowknife as the community began in the late 1930s and 1940s. Interviewees include Barb Bromley, Mary Hunter, Archie Loutitt, Arnold Smith, Helen Parker, Jean Piro, Joyce McLeod, Donald Sian, Michael Ballantyne, Harold Glick, Rene Fumoleau, Jan Stirling, Gerry Hordal, and Mary Forrest. The folder of text contains a master working list of prospective interviewees, 'local history files' or personal profiles of most participants, as well as general documents relating to the methodology for creating oral histories. The three colour prints are of former Yellowknife mayor and territorial MLA Mike Ballantyne.

The videocassette is a copy of an 8 mm film loaned to the NWT Archives. A related interview with Charles Reiach is in accession number N-1997-022.

Records include two narrated video slide shows created in 2005, and one self-published memoir created in 2015, which all include photographs taken during Dr. Ernest Jarman's time as Medical Officer for Indian Health Services at Faraud Hospital in Fort Rae (Behchoko) from July 1954 to June 1956.
The first video consists of 96 individual images and includes the following: Jarman family activities in Fort Rae, treaty payment, delivery of goods by air and by water, views of residences and buildings in Fort Rae. The second video consists of 50 individual images and includes various family activities, graveyards in Fort Rae, activities within the Faraud hospital, hunting, winter in Fort Rae. People included in the photographs in both videos include RCMP constables Ken Plumm [Kenneth Plomp], Buck Thomas and Terry Garvin, Indian Agent Kirkby, Oblate priests, Chief Jimmy Bruneau and Chief Jimmy Kia, and Naomi Murphy. Communities featured include Fort Rae (Behchoko), Yellowknife, Whatı̀ (Lac la Martre), Hay River and Fort Providence.

The text consists of a 54 page self-published memoir, "Through Dr. Jarman's eyes - going North in 1956: featuring Dr. Ernie Jarman's photos and slides of Fort Rae and surrounding area, Northwest Territories, Canada" by Dr. Ernie Jarman and Marnie Jarman Bethell, written in 2015.

Records include a script for a play entitled "Finding Franklin".

Textual records include two telegrams from 1937 relating to the flight of Sigismund Levanevsky of the U.S.S.R.; one autographed program "Commemorating Bush Pilots of Canada", August 20, 1967, Yellowknife; and one Canadian Airways Limited card showing flight routes. The photographs, most obtained from Matt Berry, relate to aviation in the north. The images feature views of life in numerous NWT communities, and activities such as mining. The map illustrates the route flown by W.L. Brintnell in G-CASK during August of 1929. The 21 day (105 hours), 1000 miles trip from Winnipeg (Manitoba) and back included stops in Fort Simpson, Fort Norman, Aklavik, Dawson (Yukon), Prince Rupert (B.C.), Edmonton (Alberta). Some of the photographs in this accession are copies of images held by the National Archives of Canada (NAC). The NAC's reference number for the items in their holdings has been recorded in the accession file.

This accession consists of six black and white photographs of aviation activities in the north. Included among the images are views of the first air mail services in 1929 and an aerial photograph of Yellowknife.

This accession consists of two black and white photographs of the crash site of a RCAF DC-3 in 1949. Item :0001 shows the salvage crew and Inuit men in front of the crashed plane and :0002 shows the crashed aircraft.
