Grollier Hall

The textual records include files containing academic performance comments and observations of student behavior dated between 1994-1996 as well as nine journals that contain notes about the academic performance of students and recordings of daily events and activities at Grollier Hall. The notes and journals were kept by Grollier Hall supervisors. The photographs are from 1977-1993 and depict Grollier Hall students, activities and class trips. The 12 videocassettes depict activities and dances at Grollier Hall, drum dances, the 1988 Carnival and the 1993 year end awards banquet. The audiocassette is a recording of the 1990 Graduation at Grollier Hall.

Records include eleven interviews conducted in 1999 as part of a study on the history of the Union of Northern Workers. Interviewees included past and present leaders and employees of the UNW. The recordings were made and the interviews conducted by Chris Powell, then a student at the Memorial University of Newfoundland completing a graduate degree.

The sound recordings contain interviews with nine former employees of Giant Mine. Bill Case, a former Giant Mine employee conducted the interviews in June 2000 during a reunion picnic for Giant Miners in British Columbia. Item :0001 contains interviews with Al Hall, Joe Malmsten, Jim McKay, George Dundas, Frank Horvat and Lorne Wrigglesworth. Item :0002 contains interviews with Tom Natyshen, Bill Hall, and Sam Bitner. There is also a short account on :0002 of Bill Case's experience at Giant Mine.

The textual records relate to an Alberta court case, Benoit et.al. v. R, which concerned Treaty 8. It also includes the 1999 thesis dissertation of Marine Le Puloch entitled 'Le Traite no. 8 au Canada, beneficiaires et exclus'. The sound recordings are from two films. One is from the film 'Dene Nation', and is an original recording by Gerry Cheezie. The second sound recording is an original recording by Jim Balsillie created for the film 'I Was Born Here.' Rene Fumoleau was the director and/or producer of the film projects of the same names.

The textual records consist of transcripts of the sound recordings. The transcript for Mary Kraus includes 1994 interviews with Lyn Hancock and also includes rewritten transcripts from interviews with Kraus in 1972 that are part of N-1979-091 (Parks Canada fonds). There are also two transcripts from oral history interviews with Bella and Ted Trindell and with Adeline Hardisty that were part of sound recordings from G-1992-033. These transcripts were going to be used by Lyn Hancock as part of the "Northern Women" project. The photographs are portraits of the women interviewed, and were taken by Lyn Hancock. The videocassettes were recorded in 1992 and show Granny Celine Lafferty at the launching of the boat "MV Lafferty", a helicopter flight over Ram Plateau and Little Doctor Lake, and discussions with Mary Louise Norwegian in Fort Simpson. There may also be footage of Mary and Gus Kraus, Edwin Lindberg and Frank Schober. The sound recordings are of interviews that Lyn Hancock conducted between September and December 1994 in the Deh Cho as part of an oral history project entitled "Northern Women." The women interviewed include: Anna Lindberg, Mary Louise Norwegian, Mary Kraus and "Granny" Celine Lafferty.

The textual records consist of a typewritten letter dated June 11, 1941 sent to Archie Jamieson when he was employed by Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., from the Bank of Nova Scotia regarding a money order. The sound recordings contain interviews with Barbara Knudsen (nee Byrne) and Donald Byrne about their memories of Outpost Island. There is also an interview with Mary Lou MacLeod Connery about her time in Goldfields, Saskatchewan. The interviews were conducted in 2006 by David Jamieson.

George Magrum

Textual records include diaries from the 1930s to the 1970s. Also included is correspondence, both business and personal, genealogy of the Magrum family, and a draft copy of a Ray Price manuscript entitled 'Brief History of Yellowknife'. The photographs depict George Magrum and his activities hunting and trapping on the barrenlands of the Northwest Territories, as well as those of his family and extended family. The sound recordings appear to be related to Mr. Magrum's diaries.
