This accession consists of one map entitled "Map of the North West part of Canada, Indian Territories & Hudson's Bay, 1857". It was compiled and drawn by Thomas Devine, Provincial Land Surveyor and Draftsman, by the order of the Hon. Joseph Cauchon, Commissioner of Crown Lands. The map is marked with the location of French Canadian forts existing at the time of conquest, and those that existed before 1713. Also included is an insert showing the profiles of various routes for the Pacific Railroad and a table of estimates for the Indigenous population of British North America.
This accession consists of a bound scrapbook containing reproductions of materials relating to early British arctic expeditions and explorers, ca. 1850s. The book contains items such as: photographs of paintings of Horatio Austin, Henry Kellet, James Clark, and Lt. Hobson; copies of textual material on medical practices and diet; copies of correspondence from Commander McClintock to James Ross; a copy plan of the "H.M.S. Intrepid"; drawings of sledge flags from Austin and Kellett expeditions; and hand bills for entertainment events aboard ship. These transcriptions were taken from Hudson Bay Company journals that are held in the Hudson Bay Company Archives. The transcriptions document excerpts from Hudson's Bay Company Post Journals from Fort Good Hope, Fort Norman, Fort Liard, Fort Simpson, Great Slave Lake Post, Reindeer Lake, McLeod Lake, Chipewyan Lake, Fort Resolution, Manchester House, Green Lake, Granville House, Fort Wedderburn, Lac La Ronge, Norway House, Fort Chipewyan, York Factory, Fort Churchill and Peels River. In addition, there are district reports and accounting reports from many of these posts.

Records include one photocopy of Frank Russell's journal dated from April 26, 1893 to August 18, 1894. The journal documents Russell's trip from Edmonton to Lake Athabasca, and along the Mackenzie River to Fort Good Hope. In addition, it covers a trip between Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake, and along the Coppermine River. The journal also contains a limited vocabulary list for the Dogrib (Tlicho), Loucheux (Gwich'in) and Yellowknives Dene. Requests for copies should be directed to the Smithsonian Institute.
Russell, FrankThe records are comprised of a copy of a typed version of the diary of Otto Lahser. The diary describes the journey taken in 1898 and 1899 down the Athabasca and Slave Rivers to Great Slave Lake and then down the Mackenzie River to the Peel River aboard the boat "Enterprise." The diary includes details on weather, people they encountered and their attempts to locate gold.

Records consist of a Hudson's Bay Company ledger listing financial transactions for the Fort McPherson post that was operated by William Firth.
This accession consists of one photocopy of the typescript version of Alfred E. Preble's journal of his trip from Athabasca Landing to Fort Wrigley back to Athabasca Landing. Included in the journal are descriptions of the flora and fauna observed and collected. There are also descriptions of Fort Resolution, Hay River, Fort Simpson and people he met during the journey. Also included are some photocopies of black and white photos taken by Preble during this trip.
