Part of W. D. Addison Nahanni collection

Caption Source: Bill Addison because we ran out of tape & time (at 1 am) before Charlie could
describe it.
Photographer: likely Charlie Hansen or Isidore Villeneuve judging from blurred photo edges.
WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 13: The background for this photo is nearly identical to Photo

  1. The bench that was in Photo 114 is is partly visible in the little hollow in the middle
distance. The combination of features in the two photos indicates that both were likely taken the
same day. The boy with the bicycle may be Pat Villeneuve. [see Photo 75 for more details.]

Anna's Photo Description: Edwin is heading out on the trapline.

Caption Source: Anna Lindberg

Photographer: unknown

WDA's Comments, 2014 Mar. 09: According to an article in Northern News Services (http://www.nnsl.com/frames/newspapers/2011-05/may12_11lin.html) Edwin was born 1929 Jun 16. He would be 18-19 years old in this photo if Anna is correct in her date. It is hard to judge from this photo but he might be 18-19.

WDA's Comments, 2013 Oct. 12: Arthur George is the person at the door. The person on the left is unknown. The Georges moved from their place on Liard River upstream of Nahanni Butte in 1938 (see Lodema's interview). Milt Campbell's diary notes that he visited them there July 31-Aug 01, 1939.

Milt Campbell's Audio Caption for photo: 12. That's the Butte taken from quite a distance off. First one's a tent and the second one's a tent. Now the Indians [Dene] must be in you see. Then there's Babiche and of course Poole Field's stands out It's the biggest thing there. Come away down with your pencil now. Not too far. There! That was Diamond C's. Once we get right of Diamond C's we have two more tents. It's funny we can't see Jack LaFlair's place. I know we had to go through quite a strip of bush to get to it. It must be clean out of that picture to the right.

Photographer: Milton J. Campbell

WDA's Comments, 2013 Sep 11: The high water and leafed-out trees indicate this is spring, probably June because the RCAF aerial survey planes are not present yet. White tents indicate that a few Dené are 'in town.'

Thelarge structure second on the right, labelled a tent above, is actually a new log cabin built by Arthur and Lodema George with the help of Milt Campbell, Harry Vandale and others.

Charlie's photo description: It's a Bellanca [Pacemaker] out at Cooking Lake east of Edmonton. Up
high to the right with the white sweatshitt, is Danny Agar. Danny landed at Simpson with a Champion. A
little bitty airplane. He wanted to know ifhe could haul stuff down to me at the hotel from Hay River, like
fresh stuff and meat. I told him I needed eggs, bacon and whatever fresh stuff he could stuff in there. So
he took off with this little thing. He just had little wheels on it. Instead of landing at the airpmt, he was
going to be smat1 and land up on top of the hill on the airpmt trail. Of course, that's all sand. When he set
down, the wheels stayed there and he kept on going up the road with the fuselage and eggs and stopped
out in the ditch. That was the end of his little airplane. So he talked me into to helping him get a bigger
one. He knew where there was one for sale and I needed somebody like that to keep that big crew we
were feeding there in food. So it cost a little for the airplane but that worked out pretty good. He got a
Stinson. That one he worked with for awhile then he disappeared. Somebody seen the aircraft sitting out
there in the muskeg way over towards Trout Lake, nobody around. Some days after somebody picks him
up on the Liard. He [Agar] wanted a bigger plane. He bought this Bellanca you see in the picture but it
needed a new engine. I think it was eight hundred and some dollars. I paid him in advance and he was to
work it off. He got this new engine put on. And that's when I went out. That's my girl May Harriet. We
went out there and they were just getting ready to hoist it up.

Caption on back of photo: "#12 - 1941 View of intake with our work tent in the background and flume nearly ready for canvas covering. The heavy canvas (binder type) was sewn in sections in Edmonton and flown in to Mickey Lake. Bill Clark."

Caption Source: Bill Clark

Photographer: Carl Falcon

WDA's Comments, 2013 Jul 10: Seen from the top end, the flume is complete structurally except that it lacks the bulkhead at the top of the flume to divert the creek into it. Also, the sluice box has yet to be built on the left side of the flume. A heavy canvas lining will be installed in the flume to reduce leaks through the rough whip-sawn boards produced nearby. Jean Dumont on left at base of flume and Bill Clark on right.

WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 13: I know nothing about this photo but it has the look of a photo
taken to send back to his Danish relatives. If it was taken in Fort Simpson, Joe Lineham, working
at HBC and an avid photographer, is the only person that I am aware of that may have had the
skill to produce a photo like this. Alternately, the photo may have been taken in Edmonton on
one of Charlie's rare trips outside.
