This accession consists of one file of correspondence between Commissioner H. A. Young and administrators of the Department of National Health and Welfare, concerning pensions for the old and the blind. Also included in the file are copies of the Ordinance, regulations pertaining to the ordinance and application forms.

Records are comprised of a 1954 report produced by C.C. Johnson, a Resident Engineer from Fort Smith, entitled "Preliminary Report, Mackenzie Highway - Mills Lake Road." It includes 31 corner mounted photographic prints and 16 black and white negatives. The report discusses plans to build a road to Mills Landing.

The photographs depict Wood Buffalo National Park, Yellowknife, Hay River, Fort Resolution, Jean Marie River and the Great Slave region. The photographs include images of park wardens and their stations, forest fire monitoring and control, an abattoir for butchering bison, and fishing operations in the Great Slave Lake area. The fishing vessel 'Peter Pond' is featured prominently. Many of the pages of the first album that originally housed the photos were stamped with 'Conservation and Management Services' which appears to be a federal government division responsible for renewable resource management and conservation enforcement in the area.

The records detail the regular and special meetings of the Council of the Northwest Territories from 1921 to 1951 (sessions 1 to 201). There are several parallel series containing minutes, agendas, and attachments, including reports, Orders in Council and Ordinances, correspondence, and occasionally photographs or maps, relating to the agenda items. products of meetings (Orders in Council, Ordinances) of the NWT Council. The first series contains the "official" set of files, including signed minutes for most meetings. Other record sets that cover some the same meetings, but may include different and more attachments, are found in the second and third series: Records of Council Members and Secretary's Files and Session Papers. The Records of Council Members series also includes records of the Advisory Board on Mining Regulations (1922-30). The last two series contain Ordinances and Orders in Council related to the Northwest Territories and associated indices.

Please note that many of the Council minutes contain outdated and pejorative terms; paternalistic, racist, ableist, or otherwise offensive attitudes; and/or discussions of sensitive topics. We have reproduced these terms and comments in the digitized documents because they are a part of the original historical record.

The microfilm represents approximately 4.5 metres of textual records. The records consist of files from Bishop A.L. Fleming's term as Bishop of the Arctic. They include clergy files; women workers files; mission station files; and diocesan files. The clergy files include: correspondence, mission reports, requisitions, cables, architectural drawings, maps, statistical reports, photographs and other materials related to male mission workers. The women workers files include: mission reports, cables, candidate applications and statistical reports from women who worked as nurses, teachers, deaconesses and house matrons. The mission station files include: correspondence, annual reports, budgets, requisitions, architectural plans, statistical reports and photographs. The diocesan files include: correspondence, architectural plans, maps, minutes of the Arctic Mission Committee and subject files.

This accession consists of one draft plan, registration number WCFUA 239776, and four photographic reproductions of plans indicating the lot boundaries for the City of Yellowknife in 1948. These plans were compiled for the Western Canada Insurance Underwriter's Association, and the original draft plan is reproduced on one of the four reprints purchased from the PAC. The four reprints are from the National Map Collection, reference numbers: 0007859 - sheets 1-4. These plans include the original names given to many of the streets in the new town area of Yellowknife.

Records include photographs documenting the transportation of transformers for the Snare River Hydro Dam from Yellowknife to Snare Lake and one annotated map of the north Great Slave Lake region.

This accession consists of two reports on agriculture in the Northwest Territories. A sixteen page report, dated November 14, 1942, from Albert Lawrence to E.S. Archibald recounts Lawrence's July to October, 1942 trip to the Northwest Territories to inspect Sub-Stations. His stops included Fort Smith, Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman, Norman Wells, Fort Good Hope, Arctic Red River, Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Fort Wrigley, and Hay River. Lawrence comments on gardens in those localities, environmental conditions, and dairy farming. His report concludes with recommendations. A two page report, dated December 14, 1942, from W.D. Albright to the director of Central Experimental Farms, in Ottawa, is a review of the report by Albert Lawrence.

The description in the reports may cause offense because the creators use outdated language to describe Indigenous Peoples and peoples with mixed heritage. Records include photographs taken by Paul Williamson during his years in both Portage La Loche (Saskatchewan) and Yellowknife. Many photos have been removed from photo albums created by Paul Williamson. The accession has been divided into three series: 1) La Loche, Saskatchewan; 2) Yellowknife; 3) Miscellaneous. The photographs of Yellowknife include views of: the Hudson's Bay Company store; gold mine operations at Con and Negus Mines; sporting activities including hockey, baseball and skiing; aircraft; the Yellowknife River; Con hydro and scenery around Yellowknife. There are also aerial views and images of the Hudson's Bay Company post in Hay River.

102 prints were housed in a photo album. Many of the images depict Day's 1938 trip by boat from Athabasca to Yellowknife. Other images show Yellowknife in the late 1930s, Negus and Cominco camps and construction crews at Prosperous Lake, mine sites and locations such as Fort Fitzgerald, Waterways and Fort Smith.

This accession consists of 12 Eldorado Gold Mines Limited purchase orders, dating from April 25 to November 23, 1939. Materials ordered include equipment, medical supplies, groceries and books. The book purchase order is annotated with the names of employees.

Records include five diaries or journals and one trade ledger belonging to Ole Andreasen, who was a trader at Shingle Point on Richardson Island. The diaries date from June 1931 to November 1935 and are written in pencil in ledger journals. The diary entries include detailed observations about the weather, daily activities and visitors to the Shingle Point post. The trade ledger lists the prices and goods purchased from the trading post. In addition, there are typewritten transcripts of the diaries included in this accession.

The map was produced and sold by the Mundy Map Company of Edmonton. The map shows travel routes from Edmonton into the NWT up to Great Bear Lake and as far north as Kugluktuk. The map includes many place names and travel hints, including directions and distances between locations. It also shows air travel routes, RCMP stations, missions, hospitals, mining claims, wireless radio stations, gas caches and the boundaries of mining districts. It shows the position of claims at Echo Bay, Hunter Bay, Dismal Lake and the Camsell River and provides rough information on landmarks such as mountain ranges, the tree line, waterfalls and rapids.

Records consist of two ledgers dating from 1897-1907. The location of the store where these ledgers were used is unknown, but it is possible that they originate from the Hislop and Nagle in Fort Rae as George Buffum may have collected them during the time when he ran his trading post. The ledgers itemize furs traded for other goods.

This accession consists of a letter addressed to 'Thomas', dated July 8, regarding a book review of 'Ice-bound on Kolguev'. [Russia]

Records are comprised of letter from John Rae to Mr. Hyde Clarke, signed and dated, 2 Addison Gdns. [London], 25 April, 1877, extending an invitation to Rae's lecture at the Royal Institute.

This accession consists of one true copy of Order in Council 1248. Copied from the Arctic Island Centennial 1874-1974.

The record is comprised of a handwritten one page census report for 1871 'Statement of the Indian population of the Mackenzie River District', listing total numbers of Indian (Indigenous) residents by Men/Women/Children (boy/girl). Posts reported include: Youcon [Yukon], LaPierre's House, Peel River, Fort Good Hope, Fort Norman, Bear Lake, Fort Nelson, Fort Liard, Fort Simpson, Fort Providence, Hay River, Fort Resolution and Fort Rae.
