The file also includes Aboriginal Law and Forestry: A Legal Update presentation outline, a press release, Special Bulletin "An Overview of the Firearms Act", Aboriginal Peoples of Canada Adaptations Regulations (Firearms), and conference information.

1920's - 1930's [history of education]

One folder consisting of copies of correspondence regarding the availability of teaching positions in the NWT [1923]; a memorandum describing the education available in the NWT in 1939 and making recommendations for improvement; a research bulletin which discusses schools in the NWT and the Yukon prior to 1930 [1983]; and draft material for Norman Macpherson's book on the history of education in the NWT [1983].

[1924 Survey Trip (Dominion Land Surveyors)]

This file consists of one journal comprised of 21 black and white photographs (N-2002-005: 0218 to 0238) and accompanying narrative dated 1924. The journal describes a six-week surveying trip where Norman Robinson was hired to guide a Dominion Land Survey team from Ottawa led by Mr. [John] Russell. The team traveled by dogsled from Fort Smith to Fort Resolution and across Great Slave Lake to Fort Rae and were stranded on Hardisty Island during break-up. They were rescued by a Mr. Blanchet, another Land Surveyor. In addition, there is a short account of a summer survey expedition to map Artillery, Clinton, Colden, Aylmer and McKay Lakes in the Barren Lands at the east end of Great Slave Lake. The photographs primarily document travel by dog team and winter camping activities.

1940's [Book of wisdom]

One folder consisting of photocopies of the title page, introduction, and table of contents of "The book of wisdom", a book prepared by the Department of Mines and Resources which was intended to educate the Inuit on topics such as disease prevention, the Family Allowance program, and the care of rifles and boats.

1944 Business

The file consists of several geological reports and a progress report for claims in the NWT, correspondence, and a diamond drilling report on the Missanaibi claims. File title imposed by the Archivist.

1950's [history of education]

One folder consisting chiefly of correspondence, meeting minutes, enrolment statistics, and photocopied excerpts from annual reports of the Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources, all relating to education in the North. Includes a program from the official opening of the Fort Smith federal school and hostel in 1958 (later J. B. Tyrrell School and Breynat Hall). Most of the material dates to the 1950s, but the file also includes letters written in 1981-1982 regarding the residential school in Shingle Point by a teacher who worked there in 1929. Contains personal information.

[Correspondence relating to land purchase within the Municipal District of Yellowknife, building by-laws, zoning by-laws, tourist leases, and the activities of the Town Planning Committee. Included is a 'Town Planning Report' from October 1960.]

One folder consisting of correspondence regarding staffing, recommendations from a 1965 teachers' conference, and the language of instruction in Arctic schools; excerpts from conference proceedings discussing the interpretation of test results and the establishment of the Teacher Education Program; statistical summaries of school enrolment and staff numbers; an organizational chart of the Department of Education [1969]; a report on the education available for Inuit students; a press release announcing the naming of several schools in 1961; and notes on the history of Breynat Hall [ca. 1980-1984].

Hamilton of Edmonton relating to the Municipal District of Yellowknife Town Planning Master Plan and the report of Future Growth of Yellowknife. Also includes a report entitled 'M.D. of Yellowknife Soil Testing' from 1961.]
