The textual records consist of a biography of Father Maurice Beauregard of the Oblates written by Elise Dery. Father Beauregard helped to co-ordinate the construction of St. Patrick's Church on 52nd Ave. in Yellowknife. The photographs were included in the biography and depict Father Maurice Beauregard, as well as the old St. Patrick's Church in Old Town Yellowknife, and the construction of the new church on 52nd Ave.

Great Bear Lake Oral History Project interviews

Records include sound recordings of interviews conducted as part of the Great Bear Lake Oral History Project in 1992. Topics discussed include settlement patterns around Great Bear Lake before Deline (Fort Franklin) was established, traditional place names in the Great Bear Lake area, the settlement of Deline (Fort Franklin), Slavey social life and customs, fishing, hunting and Slavey games. People interviewed included Jean Baptiste, Julie Baptiste, Madeline Baton, Paul Baton, Peter Baton, Madeline Bayha, Christine Cleary, Melanie Elemie, Margaret Kenny, Marie Therese (Sr.) Kenny, Bella Modeste, Camilla Takazo, Louie Taniton, Rosa Taniton, Francis Tatti, Cecile Tetso, Adeline Vital, Dora Vital and Johnny Vital. The interviews are in North Slavey; most recordings include introductions and summaries in English.

The videos consist of the production "History in the Making: The NWT Legislative Assembly." Each videocassette contains the production in a different language including: English (:0001), Tłı̨chǫ (Dogrib :0002), Dëne Sųłıné (Chipewyan :0003), Dene Zhatıé (South Slavey :0004), French (:0005), Dene Kǝdǝ́ (North Slavey :0006) and Inuktitut (:0007). The program, which is approximately 10 minutes in length, was produced by Inuit Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) in 1990. The production was commissioned by the Management and Services Board of the 11th Legislative Assembly, and traces the political development in the NWT, including the development of the NWT Council and the Legislative Assembly. The production incorporates archival photographs and moving images from the Northwest Territories, as well as footage of Legislative Assembly sessions from the 1980s. Fran Hurcomb wrote the script for the production, and archival material was provided by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Northern Service, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Crawley Films, Library Archives Canada and the NWT Archives. Records are comprised of an unpublished manuscript by Margaret Scott called "Treasures of the North". It describes the author's three years spent in the north, 1941-1944, first at Ptarmigan Mine, then Whitehorse and Prince Rupert. The section on Ptarmigan mine (approximately 26 pages) provides anecdotal account of her trip to Yellowknife, including her wedding ceremony, and the year she spent at Ptarmigan mine where her husband was an employee of Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company.

A Fishing Tale

The film is entitled "A Fishing Tale," and was produced in 1983 by Yellowknife Films. The film is in colour and is 27 minutes in length; it depicts the commercial fishing culture on Great Slave Lake and documents fishing operations in both the winter and summer months and shows how the difficult environment affects the lives of those employed in the fishing industry. Chipping ice holes, setting fish nets with a jigger in winter is demonstrated by Wilfred Smith. Bombadiers, West Channel in Hay River, winter fishing, the Wool Bay outpost station operated by Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation, Wilfred Smith's private fish business, and Clifford Smith's summer boat operations are featured.

Narrated by Bob Backhouse. Featuring Gester Gudmundson, Alex Morin, Wilfred Smith, Dominique Montgrand, Clifford Bird, Edwin Morin. Funded by CBC North, The Metis Association of the Northwest Territories, the Canada Council and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Records include two films, "They Fish the Great Slave" and "Dene Family". "They Fish the Great Slave" was produced in 1980 by Arctic Films; produced and directed by John Goldi and narrated by Mick Mallon. The subject of the film is commercial fishing on the Great Slave Lake, and features Clifford Bird, Johnny Nault, and Jane "Total" Mayo. "Dene Family" is a Goldi Productions Film from the Northern Lifestyle Series and was produced with the support of the NWT Department of Education and Canada Council Exploration in 1981. The film is narrated by Elizabeth Marlowe and depicts the lifestyle of the Marlowe family of Łutselk’e (Snowdrift).

Mundy's Map of Great Bear Lake

The map was produced and sold by the Mundy Map Company of Edmonton. The map shows travel routes from Edmonton into the NWT up to Great Bear Lake and as far north as Kugluktuk. The map includes many place names and travel hints, including directions and distances between locations. It also shows air travel routes, RCMP stations, missions, hospitals, mining claims, wireless radio stations, gas caches and the boundaries of mining districts. It shows the position of claims at Echo Bay, Hunter Bay, Dismal Lake and the Camsell River and provides rough information on landmarks such as mountain ranges, the tree line, waterfalls and rapids.

The photographs include a colour photograph of the Northern Transportation Company vessel the "M.V. Kelly Hall" and a hand coloured black and white portrait of a couple. The settlement plans are from the communities of Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Aklavik, Fort Good Hope, Fort McPherson, Wrigley, Fort Simpson, Hay River, Port Radium, Fort Resolution, Taltson River, Pine Point, Fort Liard, Tuktoyaktuk and Fort Providence. In addition, there are maps showing water routes of steamships and mining claims in the Yellowknife area. Most of the maps and plans were published by various federal departments, including the Department of the Interior, Department of Mines and Technical Surveys, and Department of Mines and Resources.
