Nunavut Political Accord

Records consist of two signed copies of the Nunavut Political Accord and one initialled copy of the final agreement. One of the copies is in French and the other two are in English. In addition, there is a copy of the original ballot for the plebiscite on division of the Northwest Territories.

The textual records are comprised of journals kept by Captain Lewis Royal Morton's during his travels along the Mackenzie and Athabasca Rivers, letters of reference, newspaper clippings of the tug 'Mabel's' freezing in on the Athabasca River and subsequent court case, and a 1938 Welding Review with story on 'Radium Queen' and 'Radium King'. There are also documents pertaining to his service with the Royal Engineers during World War I. The photographs are primarily of Northern Transportation Company and Hudson's Bay Company steamers that traveled the waterways of the Northwest Territories and northern Alberta.

The textual records consists of a wine list from the Ingraham Hotel, brochures from Yellowknife invitations to gold brick pourings and other social events. The photographs were collected by the donor, and were taken by the Royal Canadian Air Force. They consist mainly of aerial photographs of communities along the Mackenzie River.

The textual records consist of 3 files. The first file is of correspondence of the Eldorado Mining and Refining Company, Eldorado Gold Mines Ltd. and El Bonanza Mining Corp. Ltd. related to administrative matters (1934-1944). Includes some correspondence of Gilbert and Charles Labine. The second file contains the ballot of 12 candidates for the Aklavik Advisory Council (1969). The third file has part of a diary in Inuktitut (1955), 2 permits to enter the Reindeer Reserve, and 7 photographs in very bad condition which may have come from the collection of the National Archives of Canada.

This accession consists of 0.9 cm of textual records and 29 audio cassettes created by Alestine Andre during her Arctic Red River (Tsiigehtchic) Oral History Project in Tsiigehtchic in 1989-1990. The goal of the project was to collect information on the traditional lifestyle and cultural beliefs of the Gwichya Gwich'in in Tsiigehtchic. The textual records document the project's administration, and include a final report and a transcript. The audio cassettes include interviews conducted on various dates with five Elders who agreed to participate in the project: Hyacinthe Andre, Andre Jerome, Joan Nazon, Annie Norbert, and Nap Norbert.

This accession consists of two newsletters entitled "Norman News" which were published by the students at the Federal Day School in Fort Norman (Tulita). The newsletters (dated October 1958 and February 1959) contain school-related items and items pertaining to the community. There are lists of community events for the upcoming months, birth announcements, stories, crossword puzzles and a column titled hunting news. The reporters listed in the October issue are: Richard Hardy, Randy Stowell, Faye Eliason, Sandra Clement and George McDonald.

The third folder contains a census of Fort Providence residents compiled by Sister Cherlot, a Grey Nun with the Roman Catholic Mission and public nurse stationed in Fort Providence.
