The records include reports, correspondence, and historical accounts of Port Burwell, reports and correspondence from Repulse Bay (Naujaat), and correspondence and Settlement Council minutes from Norman Wells. Some of the material was created before she became Settlement Manager in Port Burwell and Norman Wells.

This fonds consists of 12 cm of textual material which includes: a set of Interdepartmental Reindeer Committee minutes (1932-1941); an index for these minutes; a journal probably kept by Peter Kaglik at the reindeer experimental station at Aklavik (1938-1944); some miscellaneous financial records from an experimental station (1943-1944); a permit to enter the Kittigazuit Reindeer Grazing Reserve (1950); a variety of reindeer bulletins issued by federal departments (1931-1956); and a chronological history of activities concerning reindeer.

This fonds consists of 271 photographs, 6 audio reels, 3 sound cassettes and 2 cm of textual material. The photographs were taken and collected by the Buffum Family and depict the covers or interior images of personalized Christmas cards from bush pilots and other people who stayed with the Buffum family. The textual material is made up of the diary of Louise Buffum dated from 1939 to 1945. The sound recordings contain an interview conducted by the Territorial Archivist, David Rudkin with Lyn Orchuk in 1985.

Photographs include images of Inuit constructing igloos, a confirmation ceremony at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yellowknife, a plaquing ceremony in Fort McPherson, the visit of Governor General Lord Tweedsmuir (John Buchan) to Aklavik in 1937, the communities of Aklavik, Fort Simpson, Coppermine (Kugluktuk) and Hay River, and images of Chief Johnny Kay [Kyikavichik], Chief Johnny Charlie, Andrew Kunnizzi, Terry Buckle, Robert Simpson, R. P. Malis, Bishop Archibald Fleming, and Bishop Stringer.

The textual material includes a typed manuscript by Henry G. Cook of the prayers, creeds and blessings translated into the Slavey language, dated 1938 and a handwritten dictionary of the Slavey translations of English words, compiled by Bishop J.R. Lucas in 1914, and an 11-page typescript manuscript written by Mr. Cook entitled "Early Education in the North". Also included are ephemera collected by Rev. Cook including a program of a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaquing ceremony held in Fort McPherson on July 7, 1977; programs, booklets, and correspondence related to Anglican clergy in the NWT; and booklets related to the history of the North, as well as copies of the Captain Al Cohol comic books produced by the Government of the Northwest Territories.

This fonds consists of approximately 8.5 cm of textual material and 8 photographs. The material is made up of five cookbooks and ledgers that were generated by the activities of the Daughters of the Midnight Sun, as well as correspondence, by-laws, membership lists, and loose recipes. The cookbooks were issued by the organization between 1941-1970. In addition to recipes, the cookbooks contain a brief history of the club, advertising, photographs and a list of the club's membership in January 1947 and in August 1955. One ledger that belonged to the Daughters of the Midnight Sun appears to date from June 17, 1968 until September 1969. The ledger includes receipts for the cookbooks issued in that year. Two other ledgers (financial statements) date from 1979 to 1985. The photograph was taken in 1971 and shows the Daughters of the Midnight Sun membership standing in front of the Capitol Theatre.

This fonds consists of two identical posters titled "Our Land, Our Life", and 2 cm of textual material. The material is made up of two copies of the "Dene Declaration: Statement of Rights" on broadsides, and one "Public Notice" from the Chiefs in Council. There is also one illustrated calendar produced by the Dene Nation for the 12-month period from May 1979 to April 1980. Included are chronologies of important events in the history of the Dene, descriptions of Dene culture and images of Dene people.

This fonds consists of 130 photographs and 2 cm of textual material. The photographic material is made up of 130 black and white negatives and prints. They include images of the Eldorado Mine at Echo Bay on Great Bear Lake, Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company (Con Mine), Hudson's Bay Company posts along the Mackenzie River and several types of marine transportation. Types of boats depicted include scows, sternwheelers, barges and tugboats. There are photographs of the "M.V. Hearne Lake", "Dease Lake", "Prospector", "Laird River", "S.S. Distributor", "S.S. Midnight Sun", "Great Bear", "M.V. Nechemus", "S.S. Northland Trader" and the "Silver Queen." Some photographs depict the traditional lifestyles of the Dene and Inuvialuit. There are also images of the following locations: Athabasca Landing, Yellowknife, Fort Franklin, Fort Norman, Fort McPherson, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson and Fort Smith. In addition, there are 23 aerial photographs of communities in the Northwest Territories, which were taken by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The photographic material also consists of copies of images taken by C.W. Mathers, a professional photographer from Edmonton who toured communities along the Mackenzie River in 1901. The textual material includes one copy of the words of the song "Home in the North," two copies of a certificate stating that the recipient is a "...blood brother of Raymond the Raven," one laminated reprint of a Mackenzie River Transport schedule from 1939 and two copies of a Mackenzie River Transport Ltd. This fonds consists of 23 photographs, 7 cm of textual material and 1 cartoon-sketch of Wally Firth. The textual material includes one Hudson's Bay Company ledger listing financial transactions between 1901-1902 from the post at Fort McPherson, correspondence written by William Firth when he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company, a short biography of John Firth as well as newsletters and letters written by Wally Firth when he was a Member of Parliament. The photographic material consists of 26 photographic prints, predominantly copies made from cellulose nitrate negatives.

This fonds consists of 36 cm of textual material and 124 colour slides. The textual material is made up of 12 volumes of Harrman's journals dated August 6, 1959 to November 11, 1967, a manuscript of an unpublished story entitled "Lucy Beavertail," numerous short stories, sketchbooks, cards and personal records, including accounts. The 124 colour slides feature Rae and the paintings of Charles Harrman.

This fonds consists of 65 cm of textual records relating to the administration of Hay River dating from 1931 to 1982. The records consist of mimeographed copies of typed minutes of meetings from the following: Local Board of Trustees of the Hay River Administrative District, from January 1952 to July 1953; the Council of the Municipal District of Hay River, from August 1953 to December 1963; and the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Hay River, from January 1964 to 1982. The material also includes by-laws, budgets, financial statements and reports. In addition, there are three bound ledger volumes. One volume is labeled "Motor Vehicle Opera[tors] Permits," but actually contains a daily record of water treatment, storage and consumption in Hay River between 1960 and 1971. The second volume is lettered "Applications for Mining Locations," and includes a listing of mining applications from 1931 and a listing of Land occupation permits for Hay River, 1946 to 1950. The third volume, lettered "Applications for Mining Locations - Northwest Territories and Yukon Branch," contains a listing of Land occupation permits for Hay River, 1944 to 1954. These ledgers would at one time have been controlled by the Northern Administration Branch of the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. There are no minutes for 1969, 1971-1972, or 1974-1977.

This fonds includes 43 black and white photographs, 87 colour slides and 2 cm of textual material. The black and white prints were taken in the early 1920s depict oil drilling activities and camps in the Norman Wells region. These photographs were taken by a photographer from Toronto possibly employed by the "Star" paper or by the Imperial Oil Company. A set of his photographs was given to David Henry. The colour slides were taken by Davina Henry while living in Yellowknife. The include views of Yellowknife in the 1950s, the visit of Prince Philip to Yellowknife in 1959, views of the Dog Derby and winter carnival, a chruch celebration in Fort Rae and the 1958 July 1st parade in Yellowknife. The textual material consists of memorabilia collected by Davina Henry during her time in Yellowknife. It includes copies of Annual Dog Derby Programs from 1959 to 1962, an informational brochure produced by the Yellowknife Board of Commerce in 1946 and her father's entry certificate into the Northwest Territories dated 1921.

This fonds consists of approximately 1.4 m of textual material and 7 photographs. The textual material is made up of 5 bound Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) journals and one carbon copy of a journal, Seasonal Log books for their steamships. The journals are from the following HBC posts: King William Land, September 24, 1932 to November 10, 1933; Fort Hearne, August 14, 1930 to March 31, 1933; Fort Hearne, March 7, 1934 to January 5, 1935; Tree River, June 1, 1925 to May 31, 1926; and King William Land, June 1, 1930 to November 29, 1931. The carbon copy journal is for King William Land, and covers the period September 12, 1925 to April 30, 1940, except for the period covered by the above bound journals of that post. The Tree River journal was recorded by A. A. Carroll and Ray Ross. The steamship logs are either Deck or Engine Room logs for the Distributor, the Great Bear, the Hearne Lake, the Hudson, and the Mackenzie River. The photographs are of the participants of a Hudson's Bay Fur Trade Conferences of 1931, 1933 and 1937 held in Winnipeg and a list of names paying tribute to Victor Ingraham.

This fonds consists of 456 photographs, 4 postcards and 2 cm of textual material. The majority of the photographs were contained in photo albums but have been removed. The photo albums include captions and two bear titles: "Ice Conditions - Bear River Upon Opening of Bear River Camp, June 1950" and "Operations on Bear River - 1951 Including Portaging of "Radium Franklin" and barges, and freight operations Bear River and Franklin." The third album documents a survey camp in the Great Bear River region during the 1930s; Hunter obtained the album from a surveyor. The photographs predominantly document Port Radium and Cameron Bay during the 1930s. The images depict life at the uranium mine, recreational activities, mining operations, mining employees, transportation and wildlife in the area. In addition, there are images of Fort Resolution, Fort Reliance, water transportation along Great Slave Lake, whaling and trapping. The loose colour photographs taken in 1980, document the portaging of the "Radium Franklin." Additional black and white photographs from the 1930s and 1940s feature Canol camps, Norman Wells and riverboats.

The textual material consists of a diary of a trip to the north compiled by David Walker, a writer hired by the Northern Transportation Company (NTCL), NTCL schedules and rates from 1938 and 1940, a copy of NTCL letterhead and a photocopy of Hudson's Bay Company Fleet schedules.

This fonds consists of 64 audiocassettes, 13.8 cm of textual material and 19 b/w negatives. The sound recording and textual records were generated by the Herschel Island and Yukon North Slope Inuvialuit Oral History Projects, which were coordinated by the Inuvialuit Social Development Program (ISDP). The photographs were accumulated as part of the Aulavik Oral History Project coordinated by Murielle Nagy in 1996.

In 1990, the Yukon Heritage Branch contracted the ISDP to initiate work on the Herschel Island and Yukon North Slope Oral History Project . It was planned as a three-year project that would focus on the documentation of Inuvialuit land use and perceptions. The first year would focus on Herschel Island, the second year on the Yukon North Slope and a synthesis of information would be produced in the third year. The results of the project were to be used to identify and develop human history themes from an Inuvialuit perspective in parks on Herschel Island and northern Yukon.

The Herschel Island component of the project (also known at the Qikiqtaruk Herschel Island Cultural Study) consists of 35 interviews that were conducted with 18 elders from Inuvik, Aklavik and Tuktoyaktuk in 1990. The records include: audio recordings and tape summaries of the 35 interviews; English and Inuvialuktun transcriptions and translations; a copy of the final report of the study; and an alphabetical subject/name index for the interviews conducted in 1990 and also those conducted in the 1991 Yukon North Slope Cultural Resources Survey. The interviews were conducted by Murielle Nagy, the project anthropologist, Bill Schneider (an anthropologist from Fairbanks, Alaska), Renie Arey who did the interviews with elders from Aklavik and Inuvik and Agnes Gruben White who interviewed the elders from Tuktoyaktuk. The elders interviewed were Ishmael Alunik, Renie Arey, Jane Esau, Alex Gordon, Hope Gordon, Persis Gruben, Kathleen Hansen, Fred Inglangasuk, Lucy Inglangasuk, Bella Jacobsen, Jimmy Jacobsen, Dora Malegana, Joe Nasogaluak, Sarah Meyook, Albert Oliver, Jean Tardiff, Peter Thrasher and Agnes Gruben White. Rosie Archie, Maria Selamio and Renie Arey produced the English translations of the interviews. Anna Illisiak and Barbra Allen produced the Inuvialuktun transcriptions. Subjects include fishing, hunting, whaling, spiritual beliefs, clothing, methods of transportation, dances, food preparation, traditional healing, houses and place names. There is also genealogical information on the Inuvialuit who lived on Herschel Island.

The Yukon North Slope component of the project (also known as the Yukon North Slope Cultural Resources Survey) was carried out by the Inuvialuit Social Development Program under contract with Parks Canada. In 1991, the project coordinators interviewed 23 elders from Aklavik, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk. The focus of the survey was the documentation of post-contact aboriginal land use as recorded in historic sites, graves, resource extraction areas, caches, lookouts, trails, place names and gathering places in the Yukon Arctic Basin. The project coordinator was Murielle Nagy, and the interviewers were Agnes Gruben White and Renie Arey. The Inuvialuit elders interviewed were: Persis Gruben, Charlie Gruben, Christina Klengenberg, Diamond Klengenberg, Bessie Wolki, Emmanuel Felix, Peter Rufus, Jonah Carpenter, Jimmy Jacobson, Agnes Gruben White, Raymond Mangelana, Ishmael Alunik, Rhoda Allen, Martha Henry, Jean Arey, Fred Inglangasuk, Sarah Meyook, Alex Gordon, Dora Malegana, Emma Edwards, Lily Lipscombe, Kathleen Hansen and David Roland. The records include: a copy of the final report on the Yukon North Slope Cultural Resources Survey; 29 audio recordings of the interviews; and English and Inuvialuktun transcriptions and translations of the interviews. Subjects depicted include fishing, hunting, whaling, relations between the Inuvialuit and the whalers, fur traders and missionaries, Inuvialuit spiritual beliefs, and the construction of DEW Line sites in the Delta.

In 1996, Murielle Nagy coordinated the Aulavik Oral Histroy Project, doing field work in several Inuvialuit communities. Family photographs lent to her by the people she met were then loaned to the NWT Archives for copying, who kept a set of copies. The photographs date from the early 1900s to 1964 and feature

This fonds consists of 7 photographs and 3.5 cm of textual material. The textual material is made up of 3 prospecting field books containing dating from 1926, 1927 and 1953, as well as a small number of Canadian Wildlife Service Bird Band cards dated 1955-1959. In addition there is one five page written report by W.L. McDonald in 1958 on the Mar Mineral Claims at Marian Lake, a number of hand drawn maps that relate to the mining of lithium in the Yellowknife area and a diary found at Jolliffe Island containing weather observations and bird watching notes from 1940-1948. Also included are five pages of handwritten notes on northern birds, found in his cabin on Jolliffe Island. The images include portraits of William McDonald and companions, as well as pictures of eagles. Mr. McDonald collected these images circa 1969 and negatives were copied from the original photographs in 1990.

This fonds consists of photographs documenting commemorative plaques at Port Radium and Fort McPherson, a visitors book from the Parks Canada cabin at Virginia Falls (Nahanni National Park), and photographs documenting the monument to Sir John and Sir James Ross at Taloyoak, Nunavut.

The fonds additionally includes materials relating to a Historical Resources Inventory of the Nahanni region. Parks Canada commissioned W. D. Addison and Associates in a series of four contracts to document Nahanni history. During the summers of 1974 to 1977, oral history interviews were conducted with 43 people associated with the Nahanni Park region. Several of the interviews were published in an internal Parks Canada document, "Manuscript Report Series No. 196: Nahanni National Park Historical Resources Inventory."

This fonds consists of 28.5 cm of textual material including school attendance registers, year books and a copy of a school opening program. The attendance registers include a sampling of the Daily School Registers kept by Sir John Franklin High School between 1958 and 1967. These registers recorded student attendance, but also record a student's racial status, disc/treaty number and parent's names. The year books, entitled "Echo" include the folowing dates: 1972, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2005. The records also includes 'Voices of the Past, Visions for the Future: A Grand Opening Celebration', an official program dating from November 9, 2000. The event was used to mark the completion of the many upgrades and renovations made to the school.

This fonds consists of 35 cm of textual material, 151 photographs, four posters, one videocassette (VHS) and one CD-ROM. The records date from 1969 to 2002 and were produced and accumulated by the Sport North Federation and include some materials that may have originated from the Arctic Winter Games Corporation. The bulk of the textual records include correspondence from 1975 about the formation of Sport North; its by-laws and constitution; copies of the Sport North publication "Sports News"; publications, programs and pamphlets from various Arctic Winter Games; the 1984-85 Annual Report for Sport North; and copies of the Sport North 1984 and 1985 manual and directory. The remaining textual material includes two manuals entitled "Dene Games, A Culture and Resource Manual" and "Arctic Sports, A Training and Resource Manual." The material was written by Michael Heine and produced between 1998-2002 by Sport North Federation and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs. The manuals are accompanied by one CD-ROM which includes written accounts from elders speaking about Dene games, and includes video clips of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The videocassette (VHS) is 45 minutes and length and includes archival photographs and film footage of traditional Dene life, as well as detailed footage of the five traditional games played at the Arctic Winter Games. The video shows each event and describes the rules and physical details of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The video footage of the five traditional games was taken at the 1998 Arctic Winter Games. The fonds also contains six scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about sports dated from 1977 to 1979, as well as Sport North Federation and Arctic Winter Games posters. The photographs document the first and fifth Arctic Winter Games (AWG).

This fonds consists of 827 photographs and 1 cm of textual material from 1949 to 1978, documenting the activities of St. John Ambulance and other first aid projects in the Northwest Territories. The textual records are comprised of: Jack Adderly's story about Tony Dauksa and how his life was saved by the creation of survival cairns in the arctic by St. John Ambulance; a cover page and maps that accompanied a binder of photographs; and a 1982 St. John Ambulance press release. Two of the photographs relate to a survival cairn set up by a group of St. John Ambulance Cadets (6 from Great Britain and 6 Canadians), on July 31, 1976.
