Records consist of 2 reports, entitled "Report on Port Burwell" and "Kennuayuak Association." The "Kennuayuak Association" report was compiled by R.S. Pilot, then Regional Director, Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) and was addressed to NWT Commissioner Stuart Hodgson. It also contains minutes of a meeting held between local government officials and Inuit on June 11, 1971. The "Report on Port Burwell," compiled by the Committee on Port Burwell, refers to the future of the community.

Records are comprised of photocopies of correspondence and directives generated between March and July 1977 relating to federal employment initiative programmes and sources of federal funding available within the Northwest Territories, via the department. There is also a binder listing communities within the Northwest Territories, which details federal funding received, number of jobs created, and total man-weeks funded by federal manpower projects such as the Short Term Employment program (STEP) between May 1977 and October 1978.

It discusses the GNWT being given independent observer status at the conference of First Ministers to be held September 8-12, 1980.

Records include moving images, photographs, and one file of reports generated by trips taken by Commissioner Stuart Hodgson. The Commissioners' Tours included visits to the upper Mackenzie, Nahanni and Liard River Area (June 2-6, 1969), the central arctic (Aug. 25 - Sept. 5, 1969), the Mackenzie Delta (Oct. 13-19, 1970), and the central arctic (May 5-8, 1971). One of the films contains a narrative by Commissioner Hodgson on the Arctic Winter Games.

Records consist of curriculum material and are divided into two series: 1) material generated by the Programme Development Division and later the Linguistic Programmes Division of the Department of Education and 2) material generated by other sources. Series 1 consists primarily of workbooks, dictionaries and readers in Dene and Inuit languages. Some of the workbooks and readers are the result of work undertaken in 1974 to establish a common alphabet for the Dene languages. The material has been arranged chronologically to show the relationships between workbooks and readers whenever possible. Series 2 consists of a small portion of material gathered by the Department of Education from other sources including the Council for Yukon Indians and the Summer Institute of Linguistics Inc. in Calgary.

Records consist of a copy of a register of Scientists and Explorers Licenses issued between May 1926 and March 1974, for the Northwest Territories. The register includes details of the names of researchers, the name and address of the institutions they represent, and the date on which the licenses were issued.

Records include photocopies of three discussion papers/reports produced by different consulting firms. They include "Northern Mineral Strategy - A Discussion Paper," by Chamberlin/Reid; "Study on Different Modes of Transportation for Resupply in the Western Arctic," by Peter A. Seage, an independent consultant and expeditor from Inuvik, March 1980; and "Imperial Oil Ltd., Drilling Plans in Davis Strait," produced by Smith, Weisbeck and Associates and presented to the Northwest Territories Standing Committee on Resource Management on October 26, 1977.

This accession consists of records from the Commissioner's Office during the tenure of Commissioner Stuart Hodgson. The records include alphabetical subject files, records relating to Commissioner's Tours of communities, including tour packages, briefing information, meeting transcripts, notes, and follow-up actions, records from other tours, case studies of communities, correspondence, funding requests, Rules of the Council of the Northwest Territories (adopted March 13, 1967), A Consolidation of The British North America Acts 1867 to 1964, and an Office Consolidation of the Indian Act.

Included among the files is information concerning the development of a tourism strategy for the Northwest Territories, pamphlets outlining fishing and hunting regulations, reports on Commissioners' tours, general information about the communities and attractions in the Northwest Territories. The records were produced by the Government of the Northwest Territories, the federal government, outfitters, tour operators and lodges concerned with promoting travel in the Northwest Territories.

The material has been divided into three series. Series A (sound recordings) has been subdivided into 3 sub-series. Series A, Sub-series 1 - consists of eight recordings (:0001 to :0008) of an alcohol workshop conducted by the Dene Nation at Snowdrift in 1980. Series A, Sub-series 2 - consists of three sound recordings (:0009 to :0011) of Dene fiddle, drum dance and hand game music recorded in Snowdrift in 1980. Series A, Sub-series 3 - consists of seventeen interviews conducted in 1980 (:0012 to :0028). Series B (text) consists one of administrative file on the Oral History Compendium and one file with summaries of three interviews. Series C (photographic) is a colour print (:0029) of Frank Tetcho and his wife Madelaine at Trout Lake.

The recordings, often referred to as the Dene Music Project, were made at four different Dene communities and each performance consisted of numerous songs. For identification purposes, each performance or recording session has been given a unique item number regardless of the number of physical tapes or songs it may incorporate. Included among the recordings are the master reels (:0009) compiled from a selection from original recordings. These reels were to be used in the production of the published record. Reference cassettes for most of the recordings are available. The textual records consists of documentation on each of the recording sessions. The black and white photographic negatives and corresponding contact sheets were taken during the recording sessions. Final appraisal and selection of the photographic negatives (items :0010-:0088) was completed in March 2013. Items :0004, :0006 and :0008 - original masters are cassettes. All other items have reel to reels as original masters.

Records include interim and final reports from the Special Committee on Housing and recordings of the public and other community hearings. The DAT cassettes were copied from the original audiocassettes in October 1995; the recordings are in a variety of native languages and contain simultaneous translations. The transcripts of the recordings are grouped as follows: Baffin/High Arctic Tour, June 1984; Western Arctic Tour, July 1984; Southern Mackenzie Tour, August 1984; Yellowknife/Kitikmeot Tour, September 1984; and the Keewatin Tour, October 1984. The November 1984 interim report is available in both English and Inuktitut syllabics.

The record consists of a report titled "Hunter Return Data from the Mackenzie Mountain Outfitters, 1976-1977." The report summarizes the data on the non-resident hunting season received from outfitters operating in the Mackenzie Mountains for the period of July 15 to November 15, 1976. Outfitters were asked to complete a 'Hunter Return Booklet' for each hunter. The information recorded includes names of hunters, date and location of kill, horn length, and general condition of animal. The lower jaws of kills were collected and tagged for analysis.
