The Governor General drove a nail in the centre of the chancel steps of the new church, and the group are gathered outside the church following this ceremony. [Bishop Fleming with His Excellency Governor General Lord Tweedsmuir (John Buchan) opening hospital at Aklavik].
A short service was held on the steps of the Hospital immediately preceding the opening. The Bishop's Chaplain was the Rev. Thomas Umaok, the only ordained Eskimo [Inuk] in Canada.
