The file consists of personal and territorial correspondence to the Commissioner, media clippings, a compilation of Library Accessions (May-June 1974) to the Arctic Institute of North America, correspondence, annual report and printed material relating to Frontier College (1973-1974), a paper titled,"Native Populations in the Canadian Arctic" by Stuart Hodgson presented at the 5th International Congress (May 2-5, 1973).
This series consists of approximately 8.9 metres of textual records. The correspondence includes the full chronos of Stuart Hodgson's tenure as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories. There are also specific chronos files for Commissioner Hodgson's correspondence with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (later Indian and Northern Affairs). There are also separate files for correspondence with the Governor General, Privy Council, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, the Deputy Commissioner, Council Members and many other individuals related to the Northwest Territories. The series also includes correspondence regarding the move to and establishment of government in the Northwest Terrtories. There are also several files of personal correspondence from Stuart Hodgson's tenure as Co-Chair of the the International Joint Commission, and during his time as chairman of the board with the BC Ferries Corporation.
This fonds consists of approximately 14 metres of textual records, 1226 b&w and colour photographic prints and slides, 31 audio recordings, and 1 film. Records detail the period just before and inclusive of Stuart Hodgson's term as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories (1967 to 1979), the move of government to the Territory, and the changes in government overtime, including the decentralisation of Territorial Government and the move to Local Government. The fonds also includes some documentation in his later work as Chair of the Canadian Section of the International Joint Commission, BC Ferries, and BC Transit. Records include professional and personal chronos including his entire tenure as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, as well as correspondence specific to relations with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (and its later iterations), personal correspondence, public and legislative addresses, issue files during his tenure as Commissioner, planning for Royal visits, Commissioner and Legislative Balls, the NWT Centennial, Arctic Winter Games, community tours, day timers and diaries.
