This fonds consist of approximately 7.40 m of textual records and 156 photographs from the Department of Health.

The bulk of the material relates to various committees in which the Department of Health was the lead agency. There are records from the Pharmacare Formulary Advisory Committee, Medical Advisory Committee, Health Coordinating Committee, Committee on Medical Legal Concerns, Minutes from the Certified Nursing Assistants Committee, Health Facilities Planning and Construction and the Community Health Advisory Committee. In addition, there is material that was generated by the Management Services Division. The records, dated 1982-1990, are primarily administrative records including minutes and reports from various committee and secretariats.

In addition there is material which was generated by the Mackenzie Regional Health Board and dates between 1988-1993. The files relate to Nursing Conferences and Committees, St. John Ambulance Committee, Maternal Prenatal Committee, Community Health Committee and Senior Management Meetings. There are also records from the Department of Social Services relating to Social Services Management Committee Meetings and Health and Social Services Training Programs.

There are records from the Legislation and Policy division, including relating to the amalgamation of the departments of Health and Social Services, as well as records relating to the transfer of Baffin region health assets from the federal Department of Health as well as records relating to the Medical Patient Search Project (MPSP).
The MPSP project was undertaken between 1988 and 1991 to search for the location of medical patients who were sent south for treatment and subsequently lost to their families.

Material from the Health Promotions and Education Division includes published reports, brochures and newsletters from the Department of Health dating from 1977-[1995]. The material includes reports on health conditions, ambulance services and poison control. There are also information pamphlets on a wide variety of topics for public information, career promotion within the Department, an interpreters handbook, the internal departmental newsletter N.W.T Healthbeat, as well as one large information kit on northern cuisine published in French.

Also included within the fonds are 140 colour slides and 16 colour photographs from the Legislation and Policy division. The slides were part of the Information Services section's slide library. The images include photography of health services, staff, infrastructure and programs offered by the Department of Health and date between 1960 and 1981. The colour photographs are related to the Medical Patient Search Project, and feature cemeteries where northern patients were known to have been buried.

The original audio cassette was copied to DAT circa 1988. The recording consists of an interview with K. Vaydik, a freelancer under contract with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Yellowknife. The discussion covered McDonald's early life, his activities as a geologist and prospector, travel to Yellowknife during the 1930s, a meeting with Jack Hornby, McDonald's opinion on developing a wilderness park at the east end of Great Slave Lake, trading posts, and his naturalist activities.

The first cassette contains an interview with Norma Stedman and Wyn Manifold who taught in the North during the 1950's and 1960's. The second cassette is an interview with Norman Simmons who discusses teaching school in Cape Dorset between 1948-1950. The third cassette contains a discussion about education in the North during the 1960s. The interviewer and subject are unknown. The fourth cassette contains a narration by Cathy McGregor about moose hide tanning in Nahanni Butte.

This fonds consists of approximately 3280 photographs in both slide and print format, 18 audiocassettes, 1 audio reel, which was copied to 1 sound CD, 6 cm of text and 2 film reels in 8 mm format. The records document Frank Gonda's life in various northern communities. The cassette recordings appear to be interviews with elders or carvers from Pelly Bay. The textual files document Gonda's attempts to create curriculum for art to be used in schools in the Northwest Territories and his efforts to obtain a Masters degree from the University of Alberta.

The photographs, primarily aerial photographs, appear to have been collected by the Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources from a number of sources. The majority of the images are of Yellowknife, but the collection also includes images depicting Fort Rae (Behchoko), Tukotyaktuk, Aklavik, Inuvik, Paulatuk, Rocher River, and Shingle Point, Yukon.

This fonds consists of approximately 10 cm of textual material containing five diaries or journals and one trade ledger belonging to Ole Andreasen, who was a trader at Shingle Point in the Richardson Islands. The dairies date from June 1931 to November 1935. The diary entries include detailed observations about the weather, daily activities and visitors to the Shingle Point post. The trade ledger lists the prices and goods purchased from the trading post. In addition, there are typewritten transcripts of the diaries.

This fonds consists of textual, graphic and cartographic materials produced durning Noble's numerous archeological expeditions in the NWT, and includes extensive field notes, original archeology reports, extensive cataloguing and analysis of artifacts found at sites, academic research and academic reports. This fonds also contains two binders of b&w photographs of the construction of Pine Point taken by Jim Cameron in 1929. Additionally, four binders in this fonds contain first flight air covers collected by Noble dating from 1929 - 1991.

This fonds consists of approximately 3 cm of textual material and 10 black and white photographs. The textual material consists of a copy of a journal kept by Carleton Appleby during the summer of 1946, during a trip on the Athabasca and Slave Rivers aboard the boat 'Beaver Lake.' He also visited Yellowknife, Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Rae during his journey. The 10 photographs were probably taken that same summer and depict the communities of Fort Rae and Yellowknife, as well as individuals he met in Yellowknife and aboard the riverboat 'Dease Lake.'

This fonds consists of one diary beginning in June 1933 and concluding in August 1934. The diary provides a daily account of John Nicholson's prospecting activities and work transporting goods to and from prospecting camps in the Great Bear Lake region. He was most active in the southeast region of the lake, particularly in the Sawmill Bay area. Included in the middle of the diary is a cash account listing for the Camsell River Mineral Syndicate.
