This fonds consists of one photo album containing 102 prints and 53 loose prints taken by John Day. Many of the images depict Day's 1938 trip by boat from Athabasca to Yellowknife. Other images show Yellowknife in the late 1930s, Negus and Cominco camps and construction crews, mine sites and locations such as Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Smith.
Day, JohnThis fonds consists of 1 audio reel and 81 photographs. The sound recording contains an interview conducted in 1973 by John Davids with H. (Bertie) Hollick-Kenyon. Mr. Hollick-Kenyon was a pilot and during the interview discussed a variety of planes that he piloted and some of his flying experiences in western Canada and the north. Mr. Hollick-Kenyon was also involved in the MacAlpine Search. The images include various airplanes used in the north, aerial photographs including views of communities in the western arctic and people involved in the aviation industry in the north. The print, taken in 1962, is thought to be the last photograph showing Henry Busse before he died.
Davids, JohnThis fonds consists of 83 photographs taken at Yellowknife and at the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd. (Con Mine) between 1938 and 1940. The images document some of the first buildings to be erected in Yellowknife and at the mine. A number of images depict miners working at Con Mine, including images taken underground at the mine site. In addition, there are photographs of miners' wives, images of the boats that carried freight into Yellowknife, including the "Hearne Lake" and the "Radium King," and images of Dene women and children waiting outside the first hospital in Yellowknife, which was located at Con Mine.
Bird, JamesThis fonds consists of 43 black and white photographic prints taken in and around Yellowknife. The images show people including James Ayrhart, his wife Doris McGill, Geddes Webster and Cam Wallbridge, as well as places in Yellowknife such as the Liquor Store, Mining Recorders Office and Yellowknife Hotel. There are also images of prospecting camps and various views of Mr. Ayrhart's DC3, the Yellowknife Express. Also included in the accession are two autobiographical accounts of some of Mr. Ayrhart's experiences in the Northwest Territories. One contains identifications for some of the photographs; the other concerns the purchase and sale of the Yellowknife Express.

The textual material is made up of 5 bound Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) journals and one carbon copy of a journal, Seasonal Log books for their steamships. The journals are from the following HBC posts: King William Land, September 24, 1932 to November 10, 1933; Fort Hearne, August 14, 1930 to March 31, 1933; Fort Hearne, March 7, 1934 to January 5, 1935; Tree River, June 1, 1925 to May 31, 1926; and King William Land, June 1, 1930 to November 29, 1931. The carbon copy journal is for King William Land, and covers the period September 12, 1925 to April 30, 1940, except for the period covered by the above bound journals of that post. The Tree River journal was recorded by A. A. Carroll and Ray Ross. The steamship logs are either Deck or Engine Room logs for the Distributor, the Great Bear, the Hearne Lake, the Hudson, and the Mackenzie River. The photographs are of the participants of a Hudson's Bay Fur Trade Conferences of 1931, 1933 and 1937 held in Winnipeg and a list of names paying tribute to Victor Ingraham.
Hudson's Bay CompanyThis fonds consists of 127 photographs in print, glass plate and negative format. 111 negatives and 15 corresponding prints provide a pictorial record primarily of Jones' travels along the Mackenzie valley and north. Few are identified at this time although locations indicated include Fort Resolution, Fort Norman, Arctic Red River, Fort Good Hope, Coppermine and the environs of Yellowknife. The images include views of the "Distributor" (ship), traditional Dene and Inuit shelters, including snow houses, traditional Dene and Inuit clothing, dog teams, ice fishing, fish drying racks, oxen plowing and drawing logs, horse drawn carriages, hides being stretched, a Northern Trading Company store interior and a closeup of beadwork designs. In addition, there is a scenic view of the Mackenzie River.
Jones, HenryThis fonds includes 43 black and white photographs, 87 colour slides and 2 cm of textual material. The black and white prints were taken in the early 1920s depict oil drilling activities and camps in the Norman Wells region. These photographs were taken by a photographer from Toronto possibly employed by the "Star" paper or by the Imperial Oil Company. A set of his photographs was given to David Henry. The colour slides were taken by Davina Henry while living in Yellowknife. The include views of Yellowknife in the 1950s, the visit of Prince Philip to Yellowknife in 1959, views of the Dog Derby and winter carnival, a chruch celebration in Fort Rae and the 1958 July 1st parade in Yellowknife. The textual material consists of memorabilia collected by Davina Henry during her time in Yellowknife. It includes copies of Annual Dog Derby Programs from 1959 to 1962, an informational brochure produced by the Yellowknife Board of Commerce in 1946 and her father's entry certificate into the Northwest Territories dated 1921.

The original photographs were believed to have been collected by Hal Evarts, during a trip from northern Alberta to the Mackenzie River. He may have been the photographer for some of the pictures, although several of the images were available as postcards. The images include the settlements of Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Fort Providence, Hay River, Fort Norman, Arctic Red River, Fort Good Hope, Fort Resolution and Norman Wells; Inuit and Dene people; Peel River camp; Roman Catholic and Anglican Missions; Imperial Oil Ltd. airplanes; and river transportation, including images of the M.V. "Lady Markworth," S.S. "Northern Trader," S.S. 'Distributor," S.S. "Northland Pioneer," and the S.S. "Mackenzie River."
Evarts, HalThis fonds consists of 262 photographs, a 1921 article written by Fred Jackson for the Hudson's Bay Company publication "The Beaver" about the first planes in Fort Simpson, notes by John Berens on the 1924 wreck of the "S.S. Northland Trader" and barge "Bell Rock" and Jackson's 1921 radiotelegraphy (telegraph) licence. The photographs include two albums titled "From the Land of the Midnight Sun" and feature various Dene and Inuit communities in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Also featured are steam ships, the Hay River Mission and school children.

The album documents travels of Fraser Marshall as an engineer on on a bush plane (CF-BDW). Marshall, FraserThis fonds consists of 76 b&w print photographs taken by Frank Thomas Carter; five of the photos are hand coloured. The photos document Carter’s voyage to Norman Wells up the Mackenzie as well as the early stages of construction of the oil storage tanks at the Canol Project in Norman Wells during 1942-1943. The photos are numbered on the back in the order in which they appeared on album pages by the donor, Donald A. Davidson, Carter’s stepson. Overall themes include the Mackenzie River, construction, boats, camp life and the Canol project.

The images include views of early construction in Yellowknife; bush pilots Stan McMillan and Matt Berry; Northern Transportation Ltd. boats, facilities and personnel; as well as Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) and Signals Corps personnel. Also included in the fonds is a copy of the Northern Transportation Company, Ltd. rates for the summer of 1937 and an illustrated Christmas card from Matt Berry.

The images have been arranged in the order of appearance in the original album, although not all of the prints were duplicated. The locations depicted include Fort Fitzgerald (Alberta), Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Fort Providence, Pine Point, Hay River, Fort McPherson, Fort Norman, Wrigley, and Fort Simpson, as well as locations enroute. The images are primarily of settlements, campsites, missions, people, and various types of water transportation, such as stern wheelers, steamships, canoes, and scows. The fonds also contains images of the Norn family and one photograph of John Hornby.

In addition, there is footage of the reindeer roundup at Richard Island.
Schaefer, Dr. OttoThe fonds consist of 48 Betacam videocassettes, 6 audiocassettes and 6 cm of textual material. The videocassettes contain stock footage documenting the construction of a birchbark canoe for the Dogrib Birchbark Canoe Project, which took place in May-June, 1996. In addition, there are 2 professionally produced Tlicho (Dogrib) language (English subtitles) broadcast versions of the project; one version is 0:29 in length, the other 0:40. The broadcast versions were completed in early-1997. The 6 audiocassettes contain Tlicho (Dogrib) language interviews conducted at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, as well as corresponding typed transcriptions. The textual material also includes proposals, project reports, logs for the videocassettes and letters of support.
Dogrib Birchbark Canoe ProjectThis fonds contains photographs taken between 1973 -1975 during three distinct northern expeditions. Photographs taken from the first expedition, which took place in May 1973, documnent transport vehicles used by the team, sites and captured phenomenon related to Sherstone's glaciology work, and the townships of Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, and Inuvik. Photographs of the second expedition, taking place from May -June 1974, capture transport vehicles and other equipment used by Sherstone's team, notable homes and buildings in Yellowknife, Fort Good Hope, Fort Wrigley, Norman Wells, Tuktoyuktuk, Resolute Bay and Frobisher Bay [Iqaluit], and Sherstone's research sites and camp facilities during this expedition. Photographs of the third expedition occuring in May 1975 mainly feature aircrafts and landing sites, and natural phenomena viewed by Sherstone during this trip through Tuktoyuktuk and Norman Wells.
Sherstone, DavidThis fonds consists of 5 cm of textual records, 346 photographs (colour slides), 6 reels of film (16mm original masters), 13 pieces of film, and 1 Umatic videocassette (archival master). The textual records consist of two bound volumes, one a diary documenting research and survey work, and the other a vessel log. The textual records also include a folder containing narration intented for one or two of the film reels. The photographs depict members of the survey crew and the Local Aklavik Advisory Committee at work during the initial survey and the later construction at Inuvik. The slides also document various aspects of the survey work including clearing ground cover, drilling test holes and constructing roads. Additionally, the photographs depict various buildings being constructed at Inuvik and some close-ups of pile driving and the construction of the town's utilidor system. The slides are originals created by Curtis Merrill, with the exception of a few duplicate slides created by Roger Brown. These duplicate slides carry the notation "R.B.". The film reels and videocassette primarily feature Aklavik and the construction of the new settlement of Inuvik (initially known as East 3). One reel is believed to be from Merrill's 1949 film of an expedition to Foxe Basin. There is also footage of the South Slave Region, Great Slave Lake, and Nahanni Butte. The 13 pieces of film contain outtakes from the Aklavik/Inuvik footage.

Conibear (family)The fonds consists of approximately 800 black and white prints and cellulose nitrate negatives. The images are contained in two photo albums and two corresponding negative albums. It also includes two file folders of photographs and a number of framed prints. The images depict Hudson's Bay Company buildings and personnel at Fort Collinson, Gjoa Haven and Tuktoyaktuk. The textual material consists of Charles Rowan's correspondence from his time at Fort Collinson, particularly concerning his use of "Barneys" Tobacco, a letter of reference from Bishop Fleming and two reports on traveling time in the arctic, particularly to and from Cambridge Bay. Furthermore, there are two notebooks that were used as "Eskimo-English" and "English-Eskimo" dictionaries. The material dates between 1935-1955.
