This accession consists of a large extent of unprocessed audio-visual material, depicting primarily Federal health services across the Northwest Territories from the 1960s to the 1980s. These include slide presentations about a 50th anniversary celebration of the St. Theresa’s Hospital in Chesterfield Inlet, a presentation on nursing in the north and a presentation on the services provided by the Department of Health, which is also accompanied by audio presentations in four indigenous languages. As well, there is a large extent of photographs, audio recordings, and video.

Records date from 1973-1990 and consist of Plans and Program files relating to the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, Nanisivik Mines, Polar Gas Project and Beaufort Delta Oil Project. In addition, there are Committee files from the Regional Management Committee in Inuvik and Inuvik Regional Health Board and files from Hamlet and Settlement Meetings from the Mackenzie Delta, Western Arctic, Baffin and Great Bear Lake Regions.

Records consist of an English copy of a Handbook for Interpreters in Health. The handbook is geared towards medical interpreters and health care workers and contains information for interpreters to assist them in communicating with patients on health related issues.

The records relate to H&SS committees, including the community wellness committee under the umbrella of Integrated Community Services. Other records relate to the Aboriginal Wellness Coalition, the Repatriation Task Team, the Committee on Nursing Education, minutes of the Director of Child Welfare meeting, the Program and Policy Development Committee, Regional Meetings on Strategic Development, the Northwest Territories Pregnancy Risk Score Steering Committee, the Mental Health Task Team, the Joint Standing Committee-Independent Seniors, the Subsidy Adoption Policy Agreement, the Community Empowerment Committee, the Addictions and Mental Health Committee, the ad hoc Committee on Sexual Assault, the Advanced Nursing Skills In-Service Program, and the Coroner's Report Review Committee.

Records include published reports, brochures and newsletters. The records date from 1977-[1995] and include reports on health conditions, ambulance services and poison control. There are also information pamphlets on a wide variety of topics for public information as well as career promotion within the Department. There are several copies of an internal department newsletter entitled N.W.T. Healthbeat. There is also one large information kit on northern cuisine published in French.

Records include files from the Territorial Hospital Insurances Board, the Senior Management and Executive Committees of the Department of Health and Social Services, Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos, program files related to the Brighter Futures program, Special Committee on Health and Social Services files, NWT Health Care Association, strategic planning records including the Minister's Forum on Health and Social Services Forum held in 1999 and the resulting report, "Our Communities, Our Decisions: Let's get on with it."

Records are related to various committees of the Department of Health and Social Services related to health and social services issues including child and family welfare, nurse mentorship, midwifery and the regional health authorities.

Records include Regional Health Board meetings; nutrition promotion programs; community visit reports from the regional nutritionist; reports from the Brighter Futures funding program; committees involved in health promotion and awareness on issues such as family violence and HIV/AIDS; arctic contaminants; and women's health issues such as maternal/cord blood monitoring efforts.

Records relate to the NWT Advisory Committee on Immunization, the Infection Control Committee and the NWT Lab Advisory Committee.

Records consist of chronos files from the Minister and Deputy Minister, 1996-1997.
