The bulk of the records are Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos, as well as briefing books. In addition, there are files related to wildlife management of waterfowl and caribou, and issues such as rabies, the Mackenzie Bison sanctuary, Hanging Ice Bison Ranch, water management and an economic assessment of the viability of a small fresh fish business serving the Yellowknife. There are also files related to the development and privatization of NWT parks, the operation of the NWT Business Credit Corporation and NWT Development Corporation, as well as records regarding the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), including a plan for EDA and EDA Management Committee work plan. There are files related to the Community Futures program, as well as a marketing strategy for tourism in the NWT and sustainable development action plan developed by the NWT Roundtable on the Environment and Economy. There are also departmental planning files including records from a Departmental Review Committee related to consolidation of the following departments: Economic Development and Tourism, Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and Renewable Resources, as well as minutes from departmental Senior Management meetings.

Records date from 1985-1996 and include NWT annual forest fire operations reports, reports on recommendations pertaining to fire management on the winter and forested ranges of the barren-ground, Beverly and Qamanirjuaq herds of caribou, as well as an evaluation and summary of the transfer of fire and forest management from the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs to the GNWT. The majority of the files consist of project reports that were prepared by Peat Marwick Stevenson and Kellog for the GNWT related to forest and fire management practices and policies.
