Subjects include the Eldorado Mine at Echo Bay on Great Bear Lake, Hudson's Bay Company posts along the Mackenzie River and marine transportation. Types of boats depicted include scows, sternwheelers, barges and tugboats. There are photographs of the "S.S. Distributor", "S.S. Midnight Sun", "Great Bear", "M.V. Nechemus", "S.S. Northland Trader" and the "Silver Queen". The accession also includes six copy negatives of images taken by C.W. Mathers, a professional photographer from Edmonton who toured communities along the Mackenzie River in 1901. Locations include the Eldorado Mine site, Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company (Con Mine) mine site at Yellowknife, Athabasca Landing, Fort Franklin, Fort Norman, Fort McPherson, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson and Fort Smith.

The S.S. Northland Trader. An early picture of the Northern Traders. I don't know who built it but it ran on the Slave River, Great Slave Lake, and the Mackenzie River. It was a propeller driven by a steam engine. 1919.

This boat was called the sternwheeler. It ran up the Bear River from Fort Norman to Bear river Rapids in the early days of the NTC [Northern Transportation Company].
