        Records include reports, correspondence, briefing materials, work plans, meeting minutes and training material related to Gender Based Analysis and women's shelters, as well as correspondence and financial reports from the Status of Women Council. There are also records related to strategies for reducing family violence, including minutes of the Coalition Against Family Violence; the NWT Action Plan on Family Violence; the Government of the Northwest Territories Response to the NWT Action Plan on Family Violence (2003-2008): A Framework for Action; and a report on the results of a survey on family violence.

        The bulk of the records comprise research and briefing materials related to litigation regarding equal pay. The research materials discuss the history of collective bargaining between the government and the Union of Northern Workers, as well as previous agreements for the transfer of employees from the federal government to the territorial government. There is also a job evaluation manual and a presentation comparing the compensation of health and social service workers in the NWT versus other Canadian jurisdictions.

        Records include minutes from Council meetings, correspondence, documentation relating to strategic planning, publications, and files related to the "From Dark to Light: Regaining a Caring Community" project. The publications include annual reports, reports about the Council, the "From Dark to Light" handbooks, reports on pension reform, spousal assault and pornography, an equality for women action plan, an informational pamphlet on the women's secretariat, promotional leaflets with photographs of women in communities, a booklet of stories written by women who were helped by shelters called Untold Stories 2, and several issues of the Northern Women Talk newsletter.

        Records date from 1985 to 2002 and includes reports about the Council, as well as published reports on pension reform, spousal assault and pornography.         This fonds consists of recordings of the various sessions of the 13th annual conference of the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women. The original recordings are on 32 audio cassettes which have been copied to DAT audio tape.

        This fonds consists of approximately 4 cm of textual material produced by the Status of Women Committee and the ad hoc committee. The materials include: minutes of meetings; correspondence; copies of department submissions; recommendations of ad hoc committee members; a copy of the Plan of Action report and the response of the Executive; and materials from the "Breaking New Ground" Conference.

        This fonds consists of 6 cm of textual material including: correspondence and minutes of the Northwest Territories Status of Women Action Committee; newsletters; reports and news clippings from the 1973 Northwest Territories Status of Women Conference; reports and minutes concerning the 1975 Yellowknife Women's Festival; poster orders; and reports on progress made and issues of interest.

        The records date from 1975-1976. The first reel is a recording of a board meeting from 1976. Discussion involves representation from the GNWT, the federal government, the Northern Canada Power Commission (the predecessor to the NWT Power Corporation), the Canada Mortgage and Housing Commission (CMHC), and the Northern Transportation Company Ltd. (NTCL). Subjects include housing in Inuvik, the level of postal service in Yellowknife, runway conditions, and tailings ponds. Included is a discussion of the functions of the Treasury Board Secretariat led by Gary Mullins. In addition the board discusses GNWT staff housing, an Arctic Air Symposium, a task force on northern business, and airport manager training in the NWT, the viability of Arctic Bay, the creation of the road to Nanisivik from Arctic Bay, and the lead-zinc mine opened by Cominco on Little Cornwallis Island. The second reel features a panel discussion on the the status of women and the International Year of Women in the NWT in which the impact of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women (1967) and its effect on the creation of the NWT Status of Women Action Committee is discussed. This also includes background on the National Action Committee (NAC) and the look ahead to the International Year of Women (1975).

        This fonds consists of one reel of colour 8 mm film (original master) of what was likely the Native Women's Association of the NWT first conference, held in July 1977. The film, approximately 175 feet in length, runs ten minutes. The film was transferred to Betacam (archival master) in 1997.

        Records include discussion papers and agreements related to the transfer of Corrections and the Land Titles function to the Department. There are also minutes, activity reports and annual reports from the Legal Services Board, correspondence and reports from the Special Advisor on Gender Equality in the Justice system that conducted a gender equality review for the Department of Justice, as well as discussion papers, and notes from public consultations in the Baffin and Hay River that were held about gender equality. In addition, there are several negotiation, policy and meeting files related to the service agreement between the Government of the Northwest Territories and Royal Canadian Mounted Police. There is also discussion paper about Victims of Crime, Ministerial briefing notes, issue files and research material concerning the Task Force on Legal Aid and development of Human Rights legislation in the NWT.
