The black and white photographs are of the 1966 Grey Cup parade in Vancouver. The colour photographs depict the 1970 Northwest Territories Centennial celebrations in Yellowknife. Ben Sivertz and Arthur Laing are featured.

Records include photographs taken by Maxine Colbourne during her time as a teacher in Aklavik and Inuvik, documenting Christmas celebrations, domestic scenes, her students and classrooms, outdoor activities (picnics, boat rides, sledding), views of buildings in Aklavik and Inuvik, and social and cultural activities (curling, dances, festivals and parades). Many of the images feature children who were likely her students. Also included are photographs of Daniel Norris, a 1963 trip to Fairbanks, Alaska for a curling tournament, visits to Duck Lake Reserve (possibly Beardy's and Okemasis Cree Nation, Duck Lake, Saskatchewan) in 1961 and 1964, a visit to Yellowknife, photographs of her young sons, and photographs from her time teaching. The photographs also document her classroom and students at Lower Post Residential School in British Columbia in 1968.

Accession consists of news releases by the Department of Culture & Communications about events in 1986, particularly the NWT pavilion during Expo 86. Other news releases include The Hunters' and Trappers' Association receiving funding under the Canada - NWT Special Rural Development Agreement to help purchase a vessel, and the announcement of a seven-week series of "Amazing Sundays" at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Another news release announces a meeting at Arctic Bay to discuss shipping in Admiralty Inlet and Strathcona sound.

Accession consists of the Interim Report detailing activities for the Northwest Territories Centennial year (1970).

These photographs were collected by Commissioner Stuart M. Hodgson. The majority of the collection documents centennial celebrations for the Northwest Territories, which includes images of a choir and musicians.

This series includes souvenirs from domestic and international travel, including trips from Yellowknife Radio sponsored travel, by Harold and Zelda Glick and their children. It includes ephemera, programs and booklets from local events such as Caribou Carnival, pamphlets and booklets relating to Yellowknife, and travel records (tickets, programs, postcards).

The record is that of a proclaimation signed by Robert Welch, Provincial Secretary and Minister of Citizenship of Ontario, on behalf of Premier John Robarts to mark the NWT Centennial.

This fonds consists of 6 cm of textual material including: correspondence and minutes of the Northwest Territories Status of Women Action Committee; newsletters; reports and news clippings from the 1973 Northwest Territories Status of Women Conference; reports and minutes concerning the 1975 Yellowknife Women's Festival; poster orders; and reports on progress made and issues of interest.

This fonds consists of 2731 colour photographs in slide and print formats, 6 audio reels, 75 film reels, 10 umatic videocassettes, approximately 1.14 meters of textual material, 8 microfilm reels and 15 posters. The photographs depict communities throughout the Northwest Territories, indigenous animals, landmarks, Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites, Anglican and Catholic Missions, schools, Dene and Inuit peoples and landscapes. In addition, there are images of the 1978 Arctic Winter Games, Commissioner Hodgson's tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969 and photographs documenting the construction of a mooseskin boat at Fort Norman and the Keele River Camp in 1981. The textual material consists of a report on the Commissioner's Tours of the Upper Mackenzie, Nahanni and Liard River Area, Central Arctic and Western Arctic between 1969-1970, as well as a journal kept by Beryl Gillespie documenting the construction of the Mooseskin Boat Project that took place in 1981. The bulk of the textual material consists of files from the Central Registry and were from the following Central Registry blocks: Policy (11-000); Settlements (11-004); Tours (11-005); Publications (11-006) and Communications (11-012). There is also approximately 5.5 cm of newsletters, brochures and booklets on varied topics such as translation services, the NWT visual identity program, regional information (mostly the Keewatin region), an Analysis of the Dene Language Information Review, the Dene and Inuit Traditional Life Series, and 6 years of weekly Territorial bulletins (incomplete). The microfilm reels contain files from the Central Registry dated between 1970-1973 from the following program areas: Policy, Settlements, Publications, Public Relations and Miscellaneous (11 block) and from Conferences and Administration (13 block). There are also 10 umatic videocassettes and 19 film reels that document the Mooseskin Boat Project. The remaining 57 films (16 mm) document events in the Northwest Territories, such as the Commissioner's Tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969-1970, the 1970 Arctic Winter Games, Caribou Carnival in Yellowknife, Camp Unity and a CBC production about whaling in the north. The five sound reels provide audio for some of these films. The remaining material consists of 15 posters that represent images of the Northwest Territories, including wildlife and northern residents in both the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions.

Records include sound recordings from the Parish Council of Rae-Edzo's Dogrib Literacy Workshop, also known as the Dogrib Writer's Project, held in late August and early September 1992. The recordings were created as part of the reporting requirements for funding received under the Language Enhancement Program. The purpose of the project was to bring together Tlicho (Dogrib) literate people from the six communities of the North Slave Region to discuss the present state of the Tlicho written language and to develop ways to strengthen culture and identity through the Tlicho written word. Another aim of the project was to bring young people, who use Roman orthography, and elders, who use syllabics, together to identify those words not in common use and to ensure that they are recorded. The original proposal also called for the development of scripted stories to be read on local radio in Tlicho. One of the cassettes identifies Joe Erasmus as the interviewee.

This accession consists of materials relating to Pope John Paul II's 1987 visit to Fort Simpson. Included in the collection are two programmes from the visit and seven colour photographs.

This accession consists of two copies of a general letter from Commissioner Stuart M. Hodgson declaring 1970 to be the centennial for the Northwest Territories. These letters were carried by dog sled to fourteen communities in the Mackenzie basin as part of the Centennial Western Dog Sled Mail Run. They are postmarked Inuvik and addressed to the Centennial Centre in Yellowknife.

The records consist of correspondance, drawings and specifications relating to the construction of the Northwest Territories Pavillion that was part of Expo '86. In addition, there are correspondance and drawings dated between 1977-78 relating to the construction of the Trout Lake log school.

The recordings are of the Dene Nation General Assembly held in Fort Good Hope in July of 1980. Item 0001 covers July 22; 0002-0004 July 23; 0005-0006 July 24; 0007-0010 July 25; 0011-0015 July 26; 0016 July 27.

The sound recordings consisted of lectures delivered as part of the "Science History and All That" lecture series. :0001 - In December 1979, George Calef, part of the Government of the Northwest Territories Game Branch lectured on the topic of caribou. :0002 - In February 1980, Dr. Walter O. Kupsh spoke on the topic of "Discovery and Mining of Uranium." Dr. Kupsh, a member of the Carruthers Commission from 1965-1966, also served as a member of the Science Advisory Board. :0003 - In September 1980, Constable M.J. (Joe) Olsen lectured on the topic of the "St. Roch." Joe Olsen was a crewmember of the "St. Roch" in the 1920s. :0004 - Photographer and historian Richard Finnie lectured on "The Truth about the Canol Project". Richard Finnie was employed as the northern advisor and historian to the United States Army Engineers constructing the Canol Project from 1940-1942. :0005 - In January 1981, Doug Heard of the NWT Wildlife Services spoke on "Caribou: Sex and Death Where the Nights are Long". :0006 - In February of 1981, Dr. Otto Schaefer lectured on "Native Food Resources and Traditional Dietary Habits: Their Value from a Nutritional and Medical Viewpoint and the Effect on the Health Picture of Native Populations Observed Consequent to Rapid Change of their Traditional Dietary Habits." Dr. Schaefer was a physician in Aklavik, Pangnirtung and the Yukon prior to founding the Northern Medical Research Unit in Edmonton. :0007 - In April 1981, Anne Gunn lectured on "Men and Musk ox". Anne Gunn, a member of the Canada Wildlife Service from 1973 to 1978, joined the NWT Wildlife Service in 1978.

The posters advertise either public lectures or the opening of new exhibits at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC). The lectures were sponsored jointly by the PWNHC and the Science Advisory Board of the Northwest Territories.

Records include video of the opening of the Chief Jimmy Bruneau School in Edzo in 1972. The moving images are black and white and have a soundtrack. Featured in the production are Chief Jimmy Bruneau, Jean Chretien, then Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, Commissioner Stuart Hodgson, Deputy Commissioner John Parker, Superintendent of Education B.C. Gillie, and Member of Parliament Bud Orange.

The fonds consists of 343 photographs (b&w negatives) of various Northwest Territories communities and events, taken by Tom Alföldi during the summer of 1971. The images include ground views and aerial views of Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Hay River, Yellowknife, and Tsiigehtchic. There are also images of the Northern Games which were held in Inuvik, showing dancing, drumming, rat skinning, seal skinning, tea making, blanket toss, and spectators.

Records include photographs kept by the Office of the Commissioner relating to the Northwest Territories Centennial in 1970. Several photographs feature people involved in the Centennial Mail Run that ended with a 40-mile dog team trip from Aklavik to Inuvik. Images also include the Centennial conference group and a drum dance.

This accession consists of one copy of an invitation to a reception and dinner held to celebrate the transfer of the territorial government from Ottawa to Yellowknife in September 1967.
